Going In Style, The Case For Christ and Smurf’s: The Lost Village open in theaters around St. Louis this weekend as the only movie opening in wide release. Rock Dog  opens at Keller 8 Cinema this weekend in South County this weekend. Office Christmas Party and Jackie are among the movies now available to rent at Redbox.

Ghost in the Shell, Power Rangers and The Boss Baby are playing this weekend at MX Movies in downtown St. Louis.

Recapping Last Weekend

The Boss Baby surprised everyone in its debut last weekend, taking in $50.2 million to beat the third weekend of Beauty and the Beast and top the weekend box office. that third weekend of Emma Watson and Dan Stevens broughtin $45.4 million and the film is now closing in on $400 million, domestically.

Ghost in the Shell brought in $18.7 million in its debut, while The Zookeeper’s Wife brought in $3.3 million.

Going In Style

Zach Braff directs a cast that includes Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Christopher Lloyd and Joey King in Going In Style, opening in theaters this weekend.

This film is a remake of the 1979 film of the same name. This script was written by Theodore Melfi, who also wrote scripts for St. Vincent and Hidden Figures.

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $11.5 million for Going In Style.

The Case for Christ

Lee Strobel’s book The Case for Christ comes to the big screen this weekend with a cast led by Fay Dunaway, Erika Christensen and Mike Vogel.

Strobel was an atheist before his wife converted to Christianity. That led the investigative journalist on a journey to prove that the story of Jesus Christ was a sham. That journey turned into his book and eventually this movie. He claims that people seeing this film will see “real evidence for God.”

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $3.4 million for The Case for Christ.

Smurfs: The Lost Village

The third movie in the Smurfs movie franchise hits theaters this weekend with Smurfs: The Lost Village. The Smurfs debuted in 2011 to $35.6 million on its opening weekend. The Smurfs 2 saw a large drop to a $17.5 million debut in 2013.
