Solo: A Star Wars Story Opens In Movie Theaters Around St. Louis This Weekend

Solo: A Star Wars Story opens in movie theaters nationwide this weekend. The latest Star Wars movie is the only film opening in wide release this weekend and highlights the Weekend Movie Guide. Moviegoers in St. Louis can also see Tully or Isle of Dogs at Hi-Pointe as well. Game Night, Black Panther, Bent and Early Man are all now available to rent from your local Redbox this weekend.

See  Solo: A Star Wars Story tonight at MX Movies. The downtown theater and Star Clipper will be hosting Solo Trivia tonight at 6:45 pm before the 7 pm showing of the movie. Gift cards will be awarded for correct answers and costumes are encouraged.

Deadpool 2 and Breaking In are also showing this weekend at the downtown St. Louis movie theater.

Recapping Last Weekend

Deadpool 2 took the weekend box office crown with a debut of $125.5 million over the weekend. Avengers: Infinity War brought in $29.45 million over last weekend, its fourth of release. Book Club debuted with $13.6 million last weekend, while Show Dogs brought in $6 million.

Ryan Reynolds and company beat the $137.2 million opening prediction we shared in last week’s Weekend Movie Guide.

The Show Dogs film shown in theaters last weekend likely won’t be the same one shown in the future. The studio behind the film announced earlier this week that it will edit certain scenes from the film after an uproar led by the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.

Opening This Weekend

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Alden Ehrenreich plays a young Han Solo and Woody Harrleson portrays the pirate Beckett in Solo: A Star Wars Story, in theaters this weekend.

Also among the film’s stars are Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany and the voice of Jon Favreau.

Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo in the orignal Star Wars trilogy, enjoyd Ehrenreich’s portrayal of the character, according to director Ron Howard.

Star Wars junkies probably already know the story about how George Lucas alsmost completely changed Han’s origin story when he wrote the original script for Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Despite all of the drama that came during the movie’s filming, including Ron Howard being brought on after the previous directors were fired midway through filming and Lucasfilm supposedly bringing in acting coaches for the film’s star, Polygon is among the outlets praising this film.

“While the storyline of the version we got is a little convoluted and the beginning drags , it’s not the disaster predicted by fan murmuring. Solo eventually understands itself. Ron Howard respects the franchise’s history, and toys withthe characters in the same way that fan-fiction writers and Tumblr artists do. Solo feels like the first Star Wars movie made to honor the characters George Lucas birthed by totally and absolutely indulging in more than 40 years of fandom. Anyone who’s spent time playing make believe with Han Solo action figures will enjoy it immensely.”

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening holiday weekend of $151.3 million for Solo: A Star Wars story.

Instead of watching one of those trailers, check out this video from Looper explaining where this latest film fits into the Star Wars universe.

It explains when the events of the film take place and some of the new characters are. The Star Wars universe is a bit complex so, any videos like this are definitely welcomed.
