Red Bulls II Playing On Short Rest Saturday

Saint Louis FC is 1-0-1 on the season. After a season-opening 0-0 tie with Louisville City FC, the local squad beat Ottawa Fury FC 3-2 last weekend. New York is 1-1-1 on the season and will be playing on short after and falling 1-0 to Harrisburg City on Wednesday.

The mid-week loss snapped 17-game unbeaten streak for NYRB II, dating back to last season.

Forward Brandon Allen returned to the team for their game in Harrisburg, starting up top and playing the full 90 minutes. Allen was named the USL Rookie of the Year in 2016 after scoring 15 regular season goals and netting a hat trick in the USL Cup Finals against Swope Park.

Gone is 2016 league Defender of the Year Aaron Long. Long moved up to the MLS side and hasn’t left a game yet this season for the New York Red Bulls.

One key newcomer for the team is Arun Basuljevic. The Red Bulls Homegrown Player was signed back in January after a stellar career at Georgetown. The midfielder has played every minute this season for NYRBII, one of three players to do so.

Another player to spend every minute on the field this season for New York is Vincent Bezecourt. The midfielder from France scored two goals in the season-opening draw with Pittsburgh.

Preki’s Squad Looks To Capitalize On Momentum From Ottawa Win

The new-look Saint Louis FC squad under head coach Preki made quite the first impression on the local fans in their home opener. 5,566 fans packed Toyota Stadium at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.

Christian Volesky and Mats Bjurman scored within the first ten minutes of the match last weekend to put the team up 2-0 on Ottawa. The Fury cut the lead to one in the 11th minute and evenutally tied the game in the 83rd. Volesky again struck in the 88th minute when he banked a ball off the Ottawa defender into the back of the net.

Volesky played two years of college soccer in the St. Louis area at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Like most of the roster, he is new to the club this season. Also like many on the roster, he has plenty of USL experience. Volesky led the Rochester Rhinos to the 2015 USL Championship.

Preki will be without the services of Ivan Mirkovic for the next 10-12 weeks. Mirkovic suffered a broken leg against Ottawa and underwent surgey earlier this week.

On Friday, the club announced the signing of four STLFC Academy players; Matteo Kidd, Jack Maher, Aedan Stanley, and Nikiphoros Vlastos. All of the players have been members of the St. Louis Scott Gallagher program. Maher and Stanley have both represented the United States on U.S. Soccer national teams.
