Last Time Out

Saint Louis FC fell to Phoenix Rising FC by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday in front of 4,318.

Chris Cortez’s breakout continued, as he opened the scoring for Phoenix with a wonderous strike in the sixth minute. Somomon Asante, who we talked about in our preview of the match, doubled the visitor’s lead minutes into the second half with another wonderful strike, this one coming off a free kick from just outside the penalty box.

Phoenix Rising FC would add another goal, this one much more average, before Seth Rudolph got the home side on the board in the 74th minute. Rudolph’s goal came on a diving header just moments after he was substituted on.  Check out highlights of the match below.

Swope Park also played Phoenix Rising its last time out, winning 1-0 last Saturday. Hadji Barry scored in the fourth minute and the home side made the goal stand in front of 916 fans at Children’s Mercy Park.

Where They Stand

Saint Louis FC is 3-4-5 on the season and, with 14 points, is tied with San Antonio FC for 9th place in the USL East.

Swope Park is 5-2-4 this season and is in sixth place in the conference with 19 points.

Scouting Swope Park

Swope Park is led by Kharlton Belmar and his eight goals this season, including four back in the month of March. He’s the current front-runner for the USL’s Golden Boot as the leading goal scorer.

The Swope Park roster also features former Chupacabra Parker Maher. The Missouri State product played 50 games for STLFC during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

What To Expect From Saint Louis FC

Wednesday’s starting lineup was pretty typical for Anthony Pulis, with the exception of Tomas Gomez starting in goal rather than Jake Fenlason.

Youngsters Jack Maher and Aedan Stanley were both on the bench for Wednesday’s contest. Could either move into the starting lineup on Saturday? With the team riding a six-match winless streak in USL games, it might just be time for Pulis to shake up the lineup.

Pack The Park

If you don’t already have your tickets to Saturday’s match, Saint Louis FC is offering a special that includes 4 General Admission tickets for $44. Call the ticket office at 636-680-0997 to get the offer or go to the SaintLouisFC website and use the promo code “4PACK” to order.

While you’re at Toyota Stadium on Saturday, remember to stop by the Gateway Arch booth at Gate 4 to enter their contest. The winner gets a swag bag full of STLFC gear, Gateway Arch tram tickets and more.

The St. Louligans will host their traditional tailgate in the back of the Soccer Park parking lot beginning at 5:30 pm.  On a serious not, this week’s Charity Du Jour benificiary is The Trevor Project. Donate to receive a really cool Louligans rainbow scarf pin.

On a silly note, listen to the latest episode of the This Is Silly! podcast.  The hosts, who we assume all posess PhDs,  apparently took this week to do a special episode on anger management. Read more about the Louligans’ Saturday in their match preview.
