Opening This Weekend

Jason Bourne

Matt Damon is back for a fourth turn as the title character in Jason Bourne, in theaters this weekend. The franchise premiered on June 14, 2002 and made $27.1 million in its opening weekend where its receipts were almost doubled by Scooby-Doo‘s $54 million opening.

Matt Damon was last seen as Jason Bourne in 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum. He did not appear in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy. The CIA and it’s director, played by Tommy Lee Jones, are still out to kill its former super spy. If you’re heading out to see Jason Bourne this week, you can expect wall-to-wall action, but don’t expect an Oscar winner.

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $67.6 million for Jason Bourne.

Bad Moms

The team behind The Hangover turns its attention to moms, specifically Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell, in Bad Moms. Bell called the on-screen portrayal of moms in this film one of the most realistic she’s ever seen.  Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times praises the film’s hilarity and the performances of the two stars as well as Kathryn Hahn and Christina Applegate.

Nerve

There are plenty of scary movies for the social media generation out there, but Nerve may be scarier than most, at least for star Dave Franco. Emma Roberts stars alongside Franco in this thriller by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman of Catfish fame. Franco and Roberts become trapped in a deadly mobile game of Truth-Or-Dare, an experience Franco said made him think differently about his own social media use.

Speaking of Dave Franco and social media. This Drop the Mic rap battle between him, James Corden and Cara Delevingne on The Late Late Show is going to be blowing up social media today.

The Shallows

Do you need something to get you pumped up for the premiere of Sharknado 4 on Sunday? I mean, other than binge-watching the first three, of course. If you haven’t seen Blake Lively V The Shark, otherwise known as The Shallows yet, it’s at Keller 8 Cinema this week for your enjoyment.

The Adderall Diaries

James Franco and Amber Heard star The Adderall Diaries, the film adaptation of Stephen Elliot’s memoir. Elliot himself saw the film at its premiere and wasn’t exactly thrilled with it. Director Pamela Romanowsky was personally selected by James Franco after he purchased the rights to the film.

A24 is the studio behind The Adderall Diaries. The studio has had major breakout hits with Ex Machina, Amy, Spring Breakers, The Witch and Room.
