Saint Louis FC takes on Oklahoma City Energy FC at home this Saturday

Back on May 7 Saint Louis FC beat the Swope Park Rangers 3-0. The win game the week after a tough 1-0 win in Sacramento on April 23. That was the only time this season that the local squad has been able to put together consecutive wins in United Soccer League play this season.

After playing one of its best games of the season last weekend at home to beat the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, coach Dale Schilly will have to make sure his team avoids any kind of a slow start this Saturday  night against Oklahoma City Energy FC. This four-game home stand on the team’s schedule is pivotal to its playoff chances and taking a full six points from the first two matches is of great importance.

The USL WEST

Saint Louis FC currently holds the seventh spot in the USL’s Western Conference. With a record of 7-8-5 (w-l-t) and 26 points they are one point ahead of the Swope Park Rangers, two points behind Rio Grande Valley FC and three points behind Sacramento in fifth place. Oklahoma City FC is tied for third in the conference with a record of 8-2-7 and 31 points. The team they are tied with, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, was STLFC’s victim last Saturday. Rio Grande Valley and Sacramento play tomorrow in Texas, meaning there could be quite the shakeup in the bottom four playoff spots.

Who Is Oklahoma City Energy FC?

Oklahoma City Energy FC’s scoring on the season has been spread across the roster. Michael Thomas, Wojcieh Wojcik and Coy Craft share the team lead with three goals a piece. Four players have two goals each and five others each have scored a goal on the season.

Craft, 19, is on loan from MLS side FC Dallas and recently appeared in the Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game.  He has appeared in several games for the U.S U20 Men’s National Team and could be selected for its 2017 World Cup side.

Oklahoma City Energy FC hasn’t lost a USL contest since a 3-0 loss to Rio Grand Valley on June 11. They’ve had four wins and three draws since then, including wins over Swope Park, OC Blues and Tulsa since July 12.

Cody Laurendi has been stellar in goal for Oklahoma City. He leads the USL with a .73 Goals Against Average and has allowed just one goal in five July matches.

Last Time Out For Saint Louis FC

After a mid-season slump that had some fans calling for Coach Schilly’s job, Saint Louis FC came out looking like a different team last weekend. Tyler David was among the new faces in the starting lineup and he was stellar in the middle of the field for Coach Schilly.

James Musa put STLFC on the scoreboard first with a goal in the 26th minute assisted by David. Irvin Herrera then scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season in the closing minutes of the first half. His looping shot over the goalkeeper’s head proved to be the game-winner.

Lynch Heads To Wilmington

Second-year forward Jermie Lynch has been loaned to the Wilmington Hammerheads for the remainder of the season. The move was announced yesterday by the club. After starting 12 matches and scoring four goals last season, Lynch had struggled for playing time this season. The native of Jamaica had appeared in just six games this season.

Lynch is being looked at to provide a scoring punch for the Hammerheads as they try to movie in the USL East playoff picture.
