Saint Louis FC Looks To Extend Winning Streak Against Vancouver

After a brief road trip to California, Saint Louis FC returns to World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton this Saturday for a game against Vancouver Whitecaps 2. The game at Marshall Wireless Stadium is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m.

Saint Louis FC is currently 2-2-2 on the young United Soccer League season and tied for fourth in the USL’s Western Conference with six points. The team is playing its first season on the Western side after playing their first season in the league’s Eastern Conference. The Vancouver Whitecaps 2 are undefeated on the season and lead the West with 11 points.

STLFC took the win and three points last Saturday in California against Sacramento Republic FC by a 1-0 score. St. Louis native Mike Ambersley scored the game’s only goal early in the second half of the contest. 11,569 fans were on hand in Sacramento to the St. Louis squad spoil the evening.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 club is the USL affiliate of Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps. They are coming off a 2-1 win over the Swope Park Rangers yesterday in Kansas City and will be playing on short rest in St. Louis. Kyle Greig leads the team with four goals in five games. While Greig is a native of Olathe, Kansas, he’s one of the only Americans on the Whitecap roster. The team is heavy on Canadians with 14 of the team’s 21 players hailing from our neighbor to the north. The roster also includes Alphonso Davies, the youngest player in the USL at 15 years of age.

STLFC is led in scoring by 23-year old Vince Cicciarelli, who played last season for Saint Louis University after a successful soccer career at Notre Dame. While his three goals lead the team, he has impressed many with his play thus far this season.

This will be Saint Louis FC’s second game of the season at WWT Soccer Park, which was devastated by floods in the off-season. The St. Louis community responded en masse to get the complex back into playing condition, including almost $100,000 raised for the effort during a fundraiser at the Anheuser-Busch Biergarten. The team saw a sell-out in its home opener earlier in the season, with 5,531 fans in the stands.

A limited amount of tickets are still available for the match this weekend. The team is offering two different 4-pack ticket packages. One includes four General Admission tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 small fountain drinks and 4 popcorns for just $75. The other includes 4 tickets, 4 burgers and 4 draft beers. Each package is $75 and can be purchased by calling (636) 680-0997.

Tickets can also be purchased through SaintLouisFC.com

The first 3,500 paying fans on Saturday will receive a Saint Louis FC Jersey Koozie. Word is the club will also be debuting a special “alternate” jersey as well. The STLFC supporter’s group, the St. Louligans, are encouraging fans to wear green in the stands.
