Recapping Last Weekend
The Jungle Book took the weekend box office for the second weekend in a row last weekend. The film made $61.5 million in its second weekend of release and has currently made an estimated $196. 4 million domestically and $557.7 worldwide.
The Huntsman: Winter’s War was the highest debut of the weekend and finished second overall with $19.4 million in receipts. Barbershop: The Next Cut earned $10.5 million in its second weekend to round out the top three.
Todd M. Thatcher predicts Mother’s Day will see an opening weekend of $14.7 million.
Opening This Weekend
Surprisingly enough, Mother’s Day is not a sequel to 2010’s Valentine’s Day, despite several similarities. Both, of course, share their titles with “Hallmark Holidays” and both feature star-packed casts. Oh, they also both have star Julia Roberts and director Garry Marshall in common. The 2010 film, which also starred Bradley Cooper, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway and others, debuted with $56.3 million back in 2010 on its way to a $216.5 million worldwide gross.
Mother’s Day fills out its cast with the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Shalke, Kate Hudson, Jon Lovitz and Jason Sudekis, among others.

Keanu is not a Keanu Reeves biopic, although Reeves does voice Keanu the cat in the film. This movie also marks the big-screen debut for comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. The plot of the film revolves around the chase to get the pet cat of Peele’s character Rell Williams back after it get abducted. This, of course, isn’t a normal “abduction” either.
Todd M. Thatcher predicts Keanu will see an opening weekend of $17.6 million.
Ratchet & Clank
The popular Playstation video game franchise Ratchet & Clank comes to the big screen with the release of the animated film of the same name this weekend. Among those lending their voices to the characters in the film are James Arnold Taylor, David Kaye, Rosario Dawson, Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Slyvester Stallone and Bella Thorne.
Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend total of $5.2 million for Ratchet & Clank.

The Rock Shares Pictures From Baywatch Set
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been sharing plenty of pictures from the set of the Baywatch reboot. One picture he shared recently was of himself and Pamela Anderson, who famously played CJ Parker in the original Baywatch and will appear in the reboot.
She introduced the world to “CJ Parker” and became one of the most iconic characters of a generation – for the most successful TV show of all time. A pleasure to welcome (as gorgeous as ever) Pamela Anderson to our #BAYWATCH cast. We couldn’t have made this movie without you. Welcome home. Thrilled you had a blast with us! #BAYWATCH MAY 19, 2017. #PamAnderson #OS #OriginalSmokestack
Johnson also shared a photo yesterday of some of the cast iconically running along the beach. Among those featuered in the photo are Johnson, Zac Efron and Alexandra Daddario.
We are the reason you feel safe in the water… We are the reason you feel safe on the sand. We are also literally running iconically in slo-motion because apparently that makes everyone’s kibbles and bits look sexy. WE ARE #BAYWATCH. #AvengersOfTheBeach #MinusTheCoolSuperpowers #AFamilyFullOfDysfunction #AndBadAssToTheBone MAY 19, 2017. ps – the dude all the way on the end is @thejonbass. He is my brother, a legend and deeply knows karate.
