One Direction breaks up

Foo Fighters “Rick Roll” Westboro Baptist Church Protesters

Dave Grohl and the rest of the Foo Fighters played a show Friday evening at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. A group of protesters from the Westboro Baptist Church were set up outside protesting the concert for whatever crazy reason those idiots got in their heads. The band pulled up in front of the protesters in the back of a pickup truck and blasted Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”.

This wasn’t the first time the Foo Fighters “rick-rolled” these Westboro Baptist Church morons. They also did it back in 2011 in Kansas City outside of Power & Light. On the occasion the Foo Fighters rolled up across the street from the protesters on a flatbed trailer in disguises and gave a little concert.

China Fall Hits U.S. Stock Market

China’s stock market fell 11% last week and today that plunge is affecting stock market worldwide. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 302.7 points in treading this morning while the S&P 500 fell 43.4 points. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 103 points of its own. All there drops were about 2% of each’s total. In China, the Shanghai Composite dropped 8.5% and totally wiped out its gains for the year. The three main indexes on Wall Street are all in what is called “correction territory”, which means they have each fallen 10 percent from their 52-week high. This fall can be traced back to the Chinese currency devaluation.

Many are calling it “Black Monday”. Apple CEO Tim Cook even emailed Jim Cramer of CNBC looking for some answers. Unfortunately, it is not the same as Black Friday. Although if you are looking for deals, check out Kinja Deals.

Jon Stewart Appears At WWE SummerSlam

WWE held its annual WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event last night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event is the organization’s  second-largest yearly pay-per-view event. Jon Stewart opened the event by pumping up the crowd and introducing several wrestlers. He also ran out to the ring during a match between John Cena and Seth Rollins where he hit Cena with a chair.

In the main event of the evening, The Undertaker defeated Brock Lesnar and then collapsed on his way back to the locker rooms.

You can watch the full WWE SummerSlam telecast online on the WWE Network. The network is $9.99 per month and you can sign up now to try it free for a month.

Straight Outta Compton Again Tops Weekend Box Office

In its second weekend of release Straight Outta Compton again topped the weekend box office. Ticket sales dropped 55.5 percent, but the movie based on the early days of N.W.A. till easily topped the chart with an estimated $26.76 million. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation was a distant second with $11.7 million in its fourth weekend while Sinister 2 managed $10.6 million in its debut.

The weekend’s other debuts, Hitman: Agent 47 and American Ultra, managed $8.2 and $5.5 million, respectively. I saw American Ultra over the weekend and thought it was a pretty decent film for what it is. It definitely had some laughs.

I’ll have more on the weekend numbers on Thursday in my Weekend Movie Guide. I’ll also preview We Are Your Friends with Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski as well as No Escape with Lake Bell and Pierce Brosnan, which both open this weekend.

Cris Carter Tells NFL Rookies To Get A “Fall Guy”

A video surfaced yesterday on NFL.com from the 2014 NFL Rookie Symposium that the league probably didn’t want coming out in public. NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter was on stage with Warren Sapp when he launched into a presentation, with the help of Teddy Bridgewater, about the importance on “having a fall guy“. Carter explained it as if the rookies were going to have a a “crew”, at least one of those “friends” should be willing to go to jail if something happened and “take the fall” for the NFLer.

Both the NFL and ESPN, where Carter is employed, distanced themselves from Carter’s statement.
