New Tune Friday featuring Tyler Ward and "Without You"

The Billboard Top 5: Covered is a weekly feature we do here at RealLifeSTL where we take the top five songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and showcase a cover of each. These artists producing these covers are trying to make a living as musicians themselves and are often quite talented in their own right. With this new feature, New Tune Friday, we’ll showcase original music from a different artist each week that we have featured before in our Billboard Top 5 posts.

“Without You” – Tyler Ward

Tyler Ward is a 25-year-old  singer/songwriter from Colorado. Ward began writing songs while at the University of Northern Colorado, where he graduated with a degree in Journalism. Ward started posting videos on his YouTube page 4 years ago and stays pretty consistent with posting a new cover or original song video each week. 107 of his videos currently have 1 million views our more on the video site. The top viewed video, a cover of Maroon 5’s “Payphone” with Katy McAllister, has over 20 million views. Ward’s most recent upload is a cover of “It’s The Hard-Knock Life” from the musical, Annie, that Ward did with some of his YouTube pals like Bri Heart, Charity Vance and Alyssa Bernal.

Ward has toured around the world in recent years and stopped in St. Louis back in June for a show at The Firebird. Ward recently directed and stared in a cover video of Maddie & Tae’s “Girl in a Country Song” for My Country Nation that was presented by Walmart.

In this acoustic video for “Without You”, Ward is joined by Alyson Stoner. Stoner played Camille in the Step Up movie franchise and is an aspiring singer herself. Here’s how Tyler Ward describes “Without You”:

“For me, this song is about doing life BIG TIME but having no one to share it with. Makes me a little sad. Sharing moments with the people we love is an insane gift! You can’t play ping pong alone you know?”
