Your St. Louis weekend event guide for September 19th through 22nd.

park(ing) day Park(ing) Day: Join STL Improv Anywhere as they turn parking spots into parks. This event is part of a worldwide event to call attention to the need for more urban space and to improve the quality of urban habitats. Since the project first began in 2005, people have used the metered spots for free health clinics, temporary urban farms, ecology demonstrations, political seminars, art installations, free bike repair shops and even a wedding ceremony. Place: Downtown St. Louis

st. louis The Great Forest Park Balloon Race: The coolest event that St. Louis has to offer, in my opinion.  Walk through the field and check out all of the balloons on Friday night. Watch as the sky lights up as they turn on their burners. The evening will conclude with fireworks at 9:15pm. Come back on Saturday and watch them take off. The event on Saturday will also include fun children’s activities, pony rides, live music, and skydivers.

Place: Forest Park – Central Field

glow in the park Glow in the Park: A balloon glow dinner held during the Forest Park Balloon Race. It benefits the Missouri Humane Society. Tickets start at $125 and include private entry to the balloon glow, private parking, dinner and 2 drink tickets. The event is held under a private tent and gives you a great view of the balloon races as well as the fireworks, Enjoy dinner and dancing and support a great cause.

Place: Forest Park – Central Field

art of food Art of Food: Presented by Slow Food St. Louis, this event will showcase the area’s top restaurants adn their fabulous chefs. Some of these include: Kevin Willman from Farmhaus, Wil Pelly from Sanctuaria, Tom Shcmidt from Franco, and Mark Sanfilippo from Salume Beddu. Check the website for all participants. These chefs will be preparing delicious hors d’ oeuvres with local, fresh ingredients. In addition, there will be a silent auction, food gift baskets, and a street fair. There will be a cash bar available with beverages from local wineries and breweries. GA tickets are $40.

family fun day Family Fun Day: First annual family fun day in Creve Coeur Park. The event will include carnival games, pig races, performance by Josh the Juggler, face painting, balloons, and other fun family games from 6-7:30pm. Starting at 7pm, the Soulard Blues Band will perform. The event is free. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and your own refreshments.

Place: Creve Coeur Park – Tremayne Shelter

bville oktoberfest Belleville Oktoberfest: While Soulard’s Oktoberfest isn’t for another month, you can celebrate this weekend over in Illinois. It’s the 33rd annual Belleville Oktoberfest. Get ready for delicious German cuisine: knackwurst, wiesswurst, bratwurst, German potato salad, potato pancakes, and assorted strudel. Or if you’re looking for traditional festival foods like hot dogs, nachos,  funnel cakes, and fried Snickers, they’ll have all of that too. Enjoy live music from The St. Louis Experience and Straight 6 Band on Friday, and Rendition, Sh-Boom and Super Jam on Saturday. The event will also include a car show on Saturday, and fun kids activities all weekend. And of course, there will be plenty of German beer to purchase. Opening ceremonies and the tapping of the Golden Half Keg begin at 5pm on Friday.

The Feed Undercover Weekend: St. Louis’ annual concert series that features original local bands (not cover bands) performing secret tribute sets. Friday’s bands include: The Incurables, Dots not Feathers, The Defeated County, Search Parties, and Bluefish. Saturday’s bands include: Via Dove, The Feed, Last to Show First To Go, Scarlet Tanager, Ryan Wasoba & Foxing. The famous bands that will be covered include: Queen, Arcade Fire, The Rat Pack, Wham, The Beach Boys, and more. Check the website for all tributes and to purchase tickets. Tickets are $10.

brentwood days Maddenfest: Formerly known as Brentwood Days, the annual festival in Brentwood is bigger and better than ever. The event includes live music from St. Louis River Critters Band and Steve Davis Memories of Elvis, festival food, carnival rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, games, a parade, and concludes with a fireworks show. This is a free event.

Time: Fri: 5-10pm, Sat: 12-9pm

Place: Brentwood Park – 9600 Russell

morgan street Morgan Street Brewery Birthday Bash: Morgan Street Brewery celebrates it’s 18th Birthday this Saturday. They will be hosting a brewfest from 1-5pm featuring their own craft beers, along with craft beers from 4 Hands, Alpha, Ferguson, Schlafly and other great local breweries. The bash continues at 5pm with live music, giveaways, dancing, and the coolest part, beer with 1995 prices. Sounds like a great time. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door.

Place: Morgan Street Brewery – 721 N 2nd St

soulard art fair Soulard Art Fair: Party on the island with street performers, magicians, and sketch artists. Food from local restaurants will be available for sampling. Listen to live music from Soulard Blues Band, Orquestra La Tino’s, Hit Factor, and Joe Mancuso. The event will also include: a wine garden, clown, balloons and face painting. Shop at Soulard Market and then enjoy the day at the festival.

Chive Unofficial St. Louis: A benefit to raise money for local organizations. The event will include a beer pong tournament, cash prizes, raffles and fun. Join other Chivers at Friendly’s for games, drinks and fun and support some local causes.

vintage market days STL Vintage Market Days: An upscale vintage-inspired indoor/outdoor market featuring original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, handmade treasures, home décor, outdoor furnishings, consumable yummies, seasonal plantings and a little more. Admission is $10 for early Bird on Friday, or $5 for Saturday and Sunday. Children 12 and under are free. Cash only.

Place: Rockin J Ranch – 6722 Bridle Trail Lane

st. peters Celebrate St. Peters: The annual free festival in St. Peters. The event will include carnival rides and games, fun craft booths, free children’s activities with live entertainment such as puppet and magic shows, live music including the Little River Band, The Brothers, The Fabulous Motown Revue and more. A fireworks show will conclude Saturday’s festivities at 8:15pm. Tickets are $18 in advance on Fri & Sun, $12 in advance on Sat. Or $20 day of Fri & Sun, or $15 day of on Saturday. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for concert seating. The celebrate St. Peters 10K Run and 1 Mile fun run/walk begins at 8am on Sunday.

Place: 370 Lakeside Park

Arnold Days Arnold Days: Annual fair with carnival rides, games, rock climbing wall, pony rides, helicopter rides, and an appearance from the World Famous Clydesdales. The event will also include a children’s fishing tournament, Zumba, parade, and car show. Joe Dirt will perform on Friday from 7-11pm, and Jessie Kohut and The Boys Band will perform on Saturday from 7-11pm. The Rams cheerleaders will make an appearance on Saturday from 7-10pm with fireworks at 9pm. Join the Root Bee Foam Fest Race on Sunday at 8am, and stay for the parade at 1pm.
