A Winey Kind Of Day…

Saturday was a winey kind of day in my family-and that means a lovely meandering trip down the Missouri Weinstrasse! Yes, my family has become a group of winos and it is on the 2010 Broken Fence Red to-do list when they are in town!

We are so lucky to have such a wealth of wine making experience here in Missouri and be so close to some great wines! In less than two hours, you can hit St. James, Hermann, or Augusta and sip, swirl, sniff and slurp some great vino!

I happen to like the Augusta area, simply because of my new favorite winery- Noboleis Winery. I happen to be a snob about certain things winery related. I am partial to the family owned winery. My requirements? Great wine, awesome views, live music, and the ability to bring your own picnic basket. Noboleis fits the bill. I am normally a white wine kind of girl, so you know the Broken Fence Red has to be good if I take home some bottles! And the Port? Perfect for curling up with a piece of chocolate after a trying day!

There are tons of wineries in the area so there is something for everyone. Some look like the perfect wedding venue-we got kicked out of Chandler Hill because they were prepping for an early evening, gorgeous sunset wedding. Some are perfect locations for the “drunk party bus” crews like Mt. Pleasant and Balducci because of their size and their available parking. Augusta has a great sampling of wines and a super friendly crew. Sugar Creek is laid back and family friendly with both an indoor and outdoor tasting room and a place to hang out and enjoy a bottle even when the weather isn’t cooperating.

2011-35

Regardless of whether you are a wine snob or a wine novice, you will have a great time and great variety to choose from.  Check out all of the wineries in Missouri and download a free iPhone or Android app so you can chart your next trip!
