Recapping Last Weekend

The buzz around Black Panther has been growing since 2017. The box office expectations were lofty and the film still managed to soar higher. Receipts during the opening weekend for Black Panther topped $200 million and easily took the weekend box office crown.

The film from director Ryan Coogler took in another $40 million in ticket sales on Presidents’ Day to clear $240 million over the holiday weekend. Black Panther is likely to top $500 million in worldwide receipts before the first ticket is sold this Friday.

Peter Rabbit saw its receipts fall just 6.5% from its opening weekend and cleared $23 million last weekend. Early Man topped $4 million during its debut weekend.

Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle topped the $10 million mark for the ninth weekend in a row last weekend and is closing in on the $1 billion mark worldwide.

See Annihilation or I, Tonya at Hi-Pointe Theatre This Weekend

Hi-Pointe Theatre is a hidden gem of St. Louis. The Hi-Pointe Backlot is even more so, hidden behind the main theater on McCausland Avenue. Hi-Pointe has been around since 1922 at the Southwest corner of Forest Park and below the world’s largest Amoco sign.

Hi-Pointe Backlot came on the scene in 2015 on the second floor of a building right behind the main theater. It took three years of rehab before the owners of Hi-Pointe spent 60 straight days putting the final touches on the space. The 48-seat theater has drawn stellar reviews from movie fans.

See I, Tonya this weekend at Hi-Pointe Backlot, while Annihilation plays at Hi-Pointe Theatre.
