Celebrate The Release of NHL 18 At Center Ice Brewery In St. Louis

** Center Ice Brewery will be closed on September 15. Center Ice will return to normal business hours on September 16.**

The latest game in the NHL franchise, NHL 18, hits store shelves on Friday September 15, 2017.  You can celebrate the game’s release in St. Louis at Center Ice Brewery, located at 3126 Olive St in Midtown.

NHL 18, featuring Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers on the cover, is available for the Playstation 4 and XBox One video game consoles.

Steve Albers opened his brewery and bar in mid-July after working on the idea full-time since he quit his bank management job back in July 2015.

Center Ice Brewery’s focus on sports is something Albers felt was missing in establishments like his. The amateur hockey player and lifelong St. Louis Blues fan even used wood salvaged from the old St. Louis Arena – home of the Blues from 1967-1994 – for the bar top, tabletops and bar wall at Center Ice. A penalty box door from “Old Barn” also now calls Center ice Home.

Center Ice Brewery has a seven-barrel brewing system on-site and ten taps available in the tasting room area. The establishment does not serve food, but encourages guest to bring their own. Albers has also partnered with Stanley Shuttle to offer a shuttle to all Blues games this season at Scottrade Center.

Center Ice will have two game systems set up for patrons to play NHL 18 all day on September 15. Gameplay is free and one a first-come-first-play basis.

EA Sports Franchise Dates Back To 1991

The NHL franchise from EA Sports first appeared in 1991 with NHL Hockey for the Sega Genesis console. Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko graced the cover of last year’s edition, NHL 17. Chris Pronger (NHL 2000) is the only other player to appear on the game’s cover while a member of the Blues.

Martin Brodeur and Scott Stevens were chosen to appear on the game’s cover while members of the New Jersey Devils.

Reviewers Love ‘NHL Threes’ Mode

NHL 18 has generally received positive reviews from various outlets around the internet. Bryan Wiedey, writing for Sporting News, notes that the latest edition has made the game easier to learn for novices and the addition ‘NHL Threes’ will make the game appeal to gamers looking for more of the “arcade sports” experience.

‘NHL Threes’ is a 3-on-3 mode of the game that emphasizes “bigger hits, faster action and more open-ice to create big plays, beautiful dangles and more goals.” Gamers can also choose to play 3-on-3 hockey with team mascots in the mode.

NBA Live 18 Released, FIFA 18 Comes Later This Month

EA Sports also produces the popular FIFA, Madden, and NBA Live video game franchises. FIFA 18 is set for a September 29 release. Madden 18 was released on August 25, 2017.

NBA Live 18 was also released on September 15.

Could NCAA Football Return?

For years, EA Sports produced the popular NCAA Football franchise. That franchise ended with NCAA Football 14 as part of litigation over compensating college athletes for the use of their likeness in products like the game.

The internet was abuzz earlier this month with the release of the latest Playstation commercial.  While the commercial does feature various NCAA Division I college football athletes and coaches, it likely is just promoting the PS4 and not the return of the franchise.
