Wonder Woman and Captain Underpants Open In Movie Theaters Across St. Louis This Weekend
Won der Woman and Captain Underpants open in theaters around St. Louis this weekend. The Fate of the Furious and How To Be A Latin Lover open at Keller 8 Cinema this weekend in South County. A Dog’s Purpose is now available to rent at your local Redbox.
See Wonder Woman tonight at MX Movies in downtown St. Louis. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is also playing at the downtown theater this weekend.
Recapping Last Weekend
While the box office was up last weekend versus the previous weekend, it was a dissapointing Memorial Day Weekend. It has been reported that last weekend ranked as the worst holiday weekend since 1999.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales led the weekend by a wide, wide margin with just shy of $78.5 million in receipts.
Baywatch, which I thought was enjoyable, dissapointed over its debut weekend with just $23.1 million in receipts.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 brought in $27.2 million over the holiday weekend. The sequel has now topped $370 million domectically and is closing in on $800 million worldwide.
Opening This Weekend
Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot finally brings Wonder Woman to the big screen in Wonder Woman, in theaters this weekend.
Wonder Woman the superhero has been around from some 75 years, but will grace movie screens for the first time this weekend in her own film.
Diana Prince first graced comic book pages in October 1941, having been created by William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter. Lynda Carter famously brought the character to the small screen in the television series that aired from 1975-1979. It’s hard to believe, but the first apperance by Wonder Woman on cinema screens was in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
On a side note, but also somewhat hard to believe, a woman named Olive Byrne is the reason Wonder Woman wears her famous bracelets. Byrne live with Marston and his wife. She was more than a friend to the couple.
With all that being said, this film from director Patty Jenkins has big expectations attached to it. By many accounts, Gadot makes for an excellent Wonder Woman and the film is worthy.
There is talk that Wonder Woman has a legitimate shot at topping $100 million in its debut this weekend.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
Captain Underpants comes to theaters this weekend in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. Stars such as Kevin Hart, Ed Helms and Jordan Peele are among those lending their voice talents to the film.
Hart is the voice of George while Thomas Middleditch voices his friend Harold. Helms voices Captain Underpants, the star of a homemade comic George and Harold created who happens to come to life.
