Drew Barrymore Hit Netflix Earlier This Month With Santa Clarita Diet
The 10-episode first season of Santa Clarita Diet is now streaming on Netflix. The series stars Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant, Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo.

The original content push by Netflix has produced some interesting shows already in the past few months. The OA capitalized on the success of Stranger Things. A Series of Unfortunate Events has earned critical praise, largely due to the involvement of author Daniel Handler and star Neil Patrick Harris.
Santa Clarita Diet, starring Drew Barrymore, may be the most interesting series thus far. Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant are Joel and Sheila Hamond, real estate agents in Santa Clarita, California. Liv Hewson is their daughter, Abby, and Skyler Gisondo is Eric Bemis, the Hammond’s neighbor.
I’ve watched about half of the first season thus far and I enjoy it. I recommend giving it a try. But be warned. If you aren’t willing to push through the first episode, you might as well not even press the play button.
The whole premise of the show is set up midway through that first episode. Sheila and Joel are a husband and wife real estate team dealing with workplace struggles as well as raising a teenage daughter. Sheila undergoes a transformation that turns her into a zombie with a taste for human flesh.
The transformation isn’t pretty. Some of the others scenes in the series aren’t pretty.
When you think about it, it makes sense that Barrymore says this series and her role “changed her life.”
Barrymore told CNN that the project came along at a low point in her life when she was going through a divorce from her husband, Will Kopelman.
“I really was excited about playing a woman who was becoming empowered, losing weight, pulling her sh*t together, Barrymore said. “For me, it was a total metaphor for my life.”
Personally, there are quite a few things I enjoy about the series. The writing is great, in my opinion. I laugh so that’s a win in my book. I think newcomer Liv Hewson is great in her role as the Hammond’s teenage daughter. Skyler Gisondo might as well still be playing James Griswold, his character from Vacation, as the awkward teenage neighbor with a crush on Abby Hammond.
