The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story was a massive success for FX last year, both critically and in the ratings. The limited series is based on a book by Jeffrey Toobin The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson. The star-studded cast includes Sarah Paulson, John Travolta, Sterling K. Brown, Kenneth Choi, David Schwimmer, Courtney B. Vance, Lady Gaga and Nathan Lane.
On the awards circuit, the show won a Golden Globe and Paulson took home one as well for her performance. Vance, Brown and Travolta were also nominated at the Golden Globe Awards. Virtually everyone involved in the show, from the cast, to the hair stylists to the casting directors were nominated for awards at the Primetime Emmy Awards. The show and cast were also nominated and won multiple other awards.
Marcia Clark, the head prosecutor in the original case, spoke glowingly of Paulson’s portrayal of her in the series. She also accompanied Paulson to the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
St. Louis native Sterling K. Brown, played lawyer Christopher Darden in the series and can currently be seen in NBC’s This Is Us, a pretty massive hit itself. Darden’s daughter publicly praised Brown’s performance, although Darden himself distanced himself from the project.
Ratings-wise, the series premiere saw 5.11 million viewers tune in. It dipped a little in the middle of the series, but 3.27 million people tuned in for the finale.
