Recapping Last Weekend

The Lego Movie brought in another $31.5 million to lead the box office for the third straight week. It has now grossed more than $180 million domestically. Kevin Costner’s 3 Days to Kill came in second with $12.3 million and Pompeii pulled in $10 million. Pompeii has quite a long way to go to make back its $100 million budget. RoboCop ticket sales fell 56% to $94. million and The Monuments Men rounded out the top five with $8.1 million.

Endless Love and Winter’s Tale both dropped 70.2% in their second week of release. Love isn’t in a terribly bad position considering it was made for only $20 million, which is just short of making back. Winter’s Tale, on the other hand, stands at only $11.3 million after two weeks against a $60 million budget.

Opening This Weekend

Non-Stop

Is this going to win any awards? Probably not. Are critics bashing it because of that? Actually no. Reviewers realize that Non-Stop is what Liam Neeson does now. He makes enjoyable B-level action films. The Hollywood Reporter apparently doesn’t realize the difference between a documentary and a fictional film. Screen Rant is predicting this one will come in second to The Lego Movie this weekend.

Son of God

This one will do well at the box office. Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ earned almost $400 million domestically back in 2004. Son of God is getting great reviews from ministers like Rick Warren and T.D. Jakes. Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey also put together The Bible in 2013 for The History Channel. The 10-hour miniseries drew millions of viewers and was nominated for three Emmy Awards. Burnett, a former t-shirt salesman, told The Wrap that he expects a billion people to see it over the next three to four years. Diogo Morgado again portrays Jesus like he did in the miniseries. Morgado played Dr. Jorge Velez in the third season premiere of Revenge.

Catch It Before It’s Gone

Keller 8 will keep the same lineup of movies from last week. Check out Dallas Buyers Club if you haven’t already. Matthew McConaughey is the favorite to win an Oscar for his leading role in the film.

Make It A Redbox Night

Nebraska is now available to rent for $1.20. Justin Long looks exactly like a young David Schwimmer on the poster for A Case of You, which also stars Evan Rachel Wood. Prison Break’s Dominic Purcell stars in Ice Hunters where he fights Soviet super-soldiers that have been unearthed from deep under the ice.

Ryan

Ryan is a weird dude. He doesn't cook, yet owns a plethora of kitchen gadgets. He rationalized buying a SodaStream while unemployed. He counts Step Up 2: The Streets as one of his favorite movies along with Footloose, Rent, Grease and Paul Blart: Mall Cop. He loves Mizzou but only wants them in the SEC so he can tailgate in Nashville. He owns a ShakeWeight and AbLounger, but still loves him some John Donut and Billie's Fine Foods. You can get more of Ryan at iLoveSoulard.com or just check the stool on the far end of the bar at iTap in Soulard.
