she sings karaoke She Sings Karaoke Showdown: St. Louis’ own Top 25 ranked Women’s Barbershop Chorus, the St. Louis Harmony Chorus, will be hosting a Karaoke Showdown this Saturday. SLHC has won the regional competition 13 times and competed in 14 international competitions, consistently placing in the top 25 choruses in the world. The event will be 3 rounds of female singers competing for cash prizes before a three judge panel for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place and the People’s Choice Award is voted by the entire audience over the course of the evening. There is a registration fee of $25 to compete. You can also come and watch for free, and sing for fun during the open mic times for $2 per song. For an additional layer of fun during the open mic sessions they’ll have a “Pass the Mic Challenge.” For $5 you can secretly sign up your friend to sing the song of your choice. That person can either sing the song, pay $5 to pass the challenge to a person of their choice or pay $10 to exempt themselves from any other challenges the rest of the night. *While the competition is females only, everyone is encouraged to come for the fun and open mic night sessions. Admission is free and there will be 50/50 raffle drawings.

Ice-Carnival Loop Ice Carnival: The Ice Carnival offers carnival games, performers, face painters, a putt putt pub crawl, 5k and 10k Frozen Buns Runs, and more. The weekend begins on Friday, January 17th with the Snow Ball at the Moonrise Hotel. Guests are encouraged to wear their iciest white apparel, and the best-costumed man and woman will be crowned the Ice King and Queen. Saturday morning, the annual 5k and 10k Frozen Buns Run begins at 10am. Afterward, look forward to great photo opportunities with penguins, polar bears, and photo cut-outs, $1,000 frozen into ice cubes, a temporary tattoo scavenger hunt, ice sculptures throughout The Loop and ice carving demonstrations by Ice Visions, penguins roaming the streets, human dogsled races, game booths, and new this year, the Red Bull Air Force Dive Team will be skydiving, landing in front of The Moonrise Hotel at 3pm. Also new this year, there will be cash prizes awarded to the Top 10 Best Loop Ice Carnival Photos.

reset Reset at the Pulitzer:  The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts is hosting a one-of-a-kind art installation from January 17th-25th. Expect the unexpected during Reset at the Pulitzer. Taking place during short periods between exhibitions, this unconventional series of programs opens the building for new encounters. Reset offers a broad spectrum of immersive and participatory experiences, such as break dancing, nail art, hiphop, drag, yoga, and more. An experience which provides new and unique ways to engage with visual art, music, dance, film, and performance in the Pulitzer gallery space. Check the website for schedule of events.

This weekend they are hosting a Greek beer tasting event. This event is free and open to  the public. cardinals winter warm up Cardinals Care Winter Warm-Up: Your chance to meet and get a signed autograph from your favorite Cardinals players, both old and new. In addition, there will be daily auctions for autographed jerseys, bats, baseball caps, tickets to games, Hall of Fame Statues, and more. All proceeds from the 18th annual Winter Warm-Up benefit Cardinals Care, the team’s community foundation supporting kids. The Winter Warm-Up is the largest of several fund-raising efforts that supply grants to non-profit agencies in the St. Louis area that help kids in health, education, mentoring, and the arts.

broadway oyster bar Oyster & Crab Leg Festival: Finally! The 2014 oyster and crab leg festival is here! The menu will feature over 10 selections of oyster and crab leg entrees and appetizers. They will also have their regular menu available. Enjoy live music from Al Holliday on Friday evening. On Saturday, All Roostered Up will play starting at 2pm, followed by the Funky Butt Brass Band at 10pm. Best Weekend Ever.

stl250 Big Muddy Dance Company Celebrates STL250: They will be premiering 3 new works:  a world premiere based on the 1899 St. Louis murder “Frankie and Johnnie” performed by the full company and choreographed by Harrison McEldowney; a company premiere of “And Etudes” choreographed by Thom Dancy and featuring live St. Louis pianist Nina Ferrigno;  and a company premiere of “A Media Luz” choreographed by Dance St. Louis’ own Michael Uthoff.  This will also be the first company performance by the newest dancer, Catie Ferguson. After the performance there will be a cake and champagne reception in celebration of STL250. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for children and seniors.
