Nic Hawk and the rest of the Top 20 attempt to make the Top 12 on The Voice

NBC’s The Voice has moved into the Live Shows portion of the season five with 20 singers vying for the 12 spots available in the next round.

Night one featured performances by ten singers on the teams coached by Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. Night two featured five artists each from Team Christina Aguuilera and Team Cee Lo Green. Voting is currently closed for this round. The results will be announced on the Live Elimination show tomorrow night at 7pm (central).

After each round of performances voting is open for a limited time. Votes may be cast in one of four ways; calling an artist’s toll-free phone number, online, through Sprint text messaging or by purchasing the eligible song on iTunes. You may only buy the song once for it to count as a vote but you can vote up to 10 times by way of the other three methods. Apparently that’s not ten votes total but rather ten votes per artist. That’s one heck of a way to inflate your vote totals.

As Rolling Stone pointed out, James Wolpert of Team Adam was the only contestant to have his song in the iTunes Top 10 the morning after the round. Any artist whose song finishes in that Top 10 has their iTunes votes multiplied by 5. In terms of video views on Youtube, Wolpert’s rendition of “A Case of You” was viewed 84,000 times. Tessanne Chin’s “many Rivers to Cross” was the top viewed performance with 110,000 views. The next closest videos were in the 40,000 range.

Blake Shelton had the best quote of the round in describing Caroline Pennell’s performance of “We’re Going To Be Friends” when he said this:

“I could literally be getting an amputation and if someone played your music, I’d think of cotton candy.”

Nic Hawk, now on Team Blake after he was stolen in the Battle Rounds from Adam Levine, definitely did “Blurred Lines” justice in the ridiculous department. It was pretty enjoyable for everyone involved.  He’s definitely a crowd favorite. It will be interesting to see if that crowd turns out to vote for him.

Personally, I loved Shelbie’s performance of the Reba McEntire hit ‘Fancy”. It’s one of the songs that I would be perfectly content hearing performed every weekend on the karaoke stage at Carson’s. If someone does “Walking In Memphis” next round, expect to read that line again.

Tune in Thursday at 7pm to see who makes the Top 12.

We put together all of the performances from this week into at Huzzaz playlist for your enjoyment.
