Google Glass Hits the Streets of St. Louis

Since getting Google Glass in July, I must admit that I have been a less-than-stellar Glass Explorer. I have found it difficult to remember to try to incorporate the new technology into my life. I often find myself thinking ‘oh, now would have been a really good time to have Glass on’. It really just takes time and awareness to get used to the notion of wearable technology. However, after dozens of photos of my son and my husband’s golf swing, I decided it was time for the ultimate test. And since we are in St. Louis, I knew it should probably involve beer.

I tested Google Glass in public for the first time at the Urban Chestnut Oktoberfest. First of all, it is a fabulous event and I recommend everyone check it out next year. Great beer, food, and music. I was able to meet a ton of fabulous people and share the excitement of Google Glass with them.

I learned 5 things when I took Google Glass out in public for the first time.

1. Instant Celebrity. Everyone will stare at you and take your picture on the sly.

2. Center of Attention. You need to schedule lots of extra time because you will be the most popular person at the party.

3. Teacher. You have to be ready to let everyone try them on and explain to each how they work.

4. Twitter Over-Sharer  You will have multiple random photos and videos taken by people on accident (notice some of the looks on the faces in the photos below) and almost everyone will accidentally share a photo on twitter.

5. Wonder & Excitement. The 5th thing I learned was that it was totally worth it and I can’t wait to do it again!

Here are some pictures from the day…

Check out some of the video captured…

The person wearing Glass was able to participate and enjoy the moment instead of just holding a camera up to capture the fun.

She thought she was taking a picture…this happens a lot.

Stay tuned for more fun with Google Glass in St. Louis (#GlassSTL).

Would you like to try them on? Which event in St. Louis should we take Glass to next?

If you tried them on at the event or have questions/comments, share your thoughts with us below!
