Best Patios in St. Louis

My very favorite thing about Spring, and most of the summer when the heat isn’t unbearable, is patio dining and drinking. If you throw in a patio game, I’m in heaven! I searched all over St. Louis and determined my very favorite patios.

Welcome to your official St. Louis Patio-ing Guide.

Drinking

360 Rooftop Bar

This bar just has the WOW factor. You get some of the most amazing views of the Arch and Busch Stadium, so make sure to bring your camera. There is always something going on at 360 like Acoustic Wednesdays or Parties on the Roof. Along with the great views, you get amazing food and drinks.

Robust

So maybe I’m a wine junkie but this is another great patio option for wine drinking and incredible food. I highly suggest you order whatever the special is for the night, it is guaranteed to please. Robust has 2 St. Louis locations: Downtown and Webster. You will always find something fun going on like Flight Nights every Wednesday, Cinco de Vino every 5th of the month, wine tastings every Tuesday, live music, and many more special events. The best patio option is the Webster Groves location. This one is definitely more on the ritzy side.

McGurk’s

Soulard is one of my favorite places in St. Louis. Everything is walkable and you will always find a great place to eat or drink. McGurk’s has a huge outdoor space with a generally younger crowd. The patio option is great in all types of weather offering some covered areas, open areas, and also a fire pit. One of the best things about McGurk’s would be the water features or maybe fun, live Irish music playing inside.

Venice Cafe

This is one experience you won’t ever duplicate anywhere else in St. Louis. Wild decor you will have to see to believe. You will feel like you are touring the Willy Wonka factory with crazy surprises around every corner. Add in some drinks and you have hours of crazy, cluttered entertainment.

Milo’s

My favorite outdoor experience in St. Louis mostly because I love great thin crust pizza, bocce ball, and The Hill neighborhood. This bar has it all. Outdoor drinking and bocce were made to be together, especially if you have a large group of people to entertain.

J McArthur’s

This has become one of my favorites in South City. Adorable patio located in the back with fire pits and a great front patio with tons of space. It is under new ownership and has a brand new menu that sounds delicious.

Stella Blues

What some might call a “townie bar,” this South City bar, which re-opened in 2011 after closing in 2009, has an awesome outdoor patio. It is surrounded by this funky iron-like designed wall. It also offers a flat screen t.v. and fire pit. On a mock stage along one of the walls, stand The Blues Brothers. Bonus: the outdoor patio is pet friendly. They offer great Happy Hour specials which last until 7pm as opposed to the usual 6pm. Also, similar to Fast Eddie’s, they offer super cheap food, like $.99 for a basket of fries.

Illinois

Wine Tap

Back to wine but this time on the Illinois side. Wine tap has great wood-fired pizza and wine options. I love coming here on a slightly cold evening and heading out to the patio to be offered a blanket to keep me warm and cozy. They also have a fabulous retractable roof for windy or rainy days!

Fast Eddie’s

While not technically in St. Louis, it’s too close not to check out. It has probably the biggest patio in the St. Louis area. They have live music every Wednesday through Sunday with multiple outside bars. While the food isn’t amazing, it’s ridiculously cheap and fun: Fast Eddie burgers, Hot Chick on-a-Stick, they’re just fun. They tend to get a lot of big groups for Bachelorette parties and birthdays. They even give away t-shirts for people who celebrate their 21st birthday there.

Dining

Vin De Set

For dining, this is my favorite. One of the best times to eat on the roof-top patio is during the summer when Celebrate St. Louis is going on. It is incredible to devour amazing food and drink and also watch the fireworks after one of the concerts. Spectacular. This is a perfect spot for a romantic date.

Cielo

Great service and amazing views. Slightly expensive, but worth it because you will feel like a queen (or king). Trendy but comfy couches and fire pits are the perfect place to listen to music and enjoy drinks with friends after dinner.

Pi Pizzeria

The MX District downtown boasts great new restaurants and nightlife. The best new patio is definitely Pi Pizzeria. Enjoy amazing pizza and craft beer while rediscovering downtown St. Louis. The Pi location on the Delmar Loop also offers a great patio for dining.

Broadway Oyster Bar

Known for their delicious Cajun food, including the best Oyster Po’Boy (says my Oyster enthusiast friend) and the addictive Alligator Sausage & Shrimp Cheesecake (so I’ve heard), and daily live music from awesome bands like the Soulard Blues Band, All Roostered Up, Big Mike Aguirre and more.  With wooden benches covered in graffiti from those who have come and gone, oyster shells lining the walkways and the unforgettable, bright yellow “Leave Your Attitude At Home” welcome note written on the front door, it’s a patio worth visiting.

The Boathouse

A magical outdoor patio with amazing views, especially at sunset. You can watch the ducks swimming and people paddle boating. You can bring your pups, and it’s a huge patio. It’s pretty busy all day on the weekends so expect to wait a bit, but you can walk around  or take a paddle boat ride while you’re waiting. They have their Shrimp Boils in the Spring which are very popular. They also have a great Sunday brunch menu.

Molly’s

Another Soulard destination with delicious cajun food and my favorite, bananas foster. They also have one of the largest patios in St. Louis with outdoor bar service, live music, and karaoke.

Little Hills Winery

I am a sucker for a great fire pit and Little Hills Winery has one of my favorites.  You can dine on the outside patio right next to a great stone fire pit or water feature. Make sure to check it out next time you are in Historic St. Charles.

Scape

Head over to the Central West End to enjoy great ambiance, expansive wine and craft beer selection, and tasty food. The complimentary little donuts filled with vanilla cream are delish and a welcome surprise. The patio offers great options for dining or getting a little more comfortable on the couches. The best is heading out on a Cardinal game night to watch on the giant projection screen.

Deaver’s Restaurant & Sports Bar

Voted #1 Bar & Grill in North County as well as Best Neighborhood Bar by RFT. The patio has heaters for chilly nights and they have great happy hour specials. The food is really good. It’s simple bar food but it’s good quality. Try The “Ziggy” Burger or “The Don” French Dip. They also have a game room inside for the kids.

Schlafly Bottleworks

Schlafly is known for great beer but the bottleworks location offers a great accompanying experience. You can check out the facilities where the beer is made, check out the store, and then head out to the covered patio. The patio was recently covered this past summer and it has been great for those super sunny days when you still want to be outside, just not directly in the sun. Schlafly has surprisingly good food for a beer specialist, you will always find something unique. They also have events all the time like a farmers market every Wednesday night and lots of others here.
