Behave in the laundry room!!

A leak in the plumbing stack at my house has brought me back to the laundry mat.  It definitely has it’s advantages, like getting all the laundry done in just two hours.  It also has its frustrations.  What follows is my compilation of ways not to anger your fellow patrons.  Hopefully it will help to make all community laundry rooms and laundry mats happier places.  O.K. maybe at least one or two of them.

1.  Hold the door for people.  This is pretty straight forward it’s just plain good manners.

2.  Don’t claim a table until your clothes are at least in the dryer.  If there are tons of tables this may not apply, but it is very frustrating to get your clothes out of the dryer only to find that every table is taken by people who don’t need them any time soon.

3. I don’t mind if you don’t stay with your clothes, I have been known to run a quick errand, especially during the long drying time.  For goodness sake there is no reason for you to arrived back 40 minutes after your clothes are done.  Time it better, it’s just plain rude.  Also on this same note if you left your clothes and they got tossed in a basket do not give everyone there the stink eye.  You rudely left your stuff, it’s not a mystery why it was taken out.

4. Throw away your dryer sheets. I don’t want your used dryer sheet with my clothes and they are very slippery when on the floor.  It only takes a second.

5. Do not spread out so much that people cannot get around you, and if you have so much laundry that you must try a table in the back or out of the way.  Tieing into this when someone says excuse me and needs to get around you NO STINK EYE!  I’m just trying to get to my clothes and there really is no other way around!! (I’ve noticed lots of stink eye goes on at the laundry mat.)

6. Lower your volume.  I bring a book to the laundry mat everytime I go and many times get some great reading done while waiting on my clothes.  Please don’t sit down right next to me and relive your night or fight at full volume.

I’m certain that this is not a complete list. Please, if you go to a community laudry room or laundry mat remember we are all there for the same reason.  To get it done and get out of there.  Try and be respectful to the people around you.
