Cardinal Fan Dilemma

Baseball Let me begin by saying that I am a huge Cardinal Baseball fan, not expert by any means, and I am positive I will get crucified in St. Louis for even thinking what I am about to say, but…

The Cardinals would be CRAZY to sign Ablert Pujols for a $300 million dollar deal!

I think we have lost our minds if we really think this is a good idea.    I admit, I love to watch him play and agree that he is likely one of the best players ever in the game of baseball.  But, this will do more harm than good.

I read somewhere that the AVERAGE salary for a baseball player is something like $3 million – what???  Practically Zero sports teams are profitable and tax payers pay for their stadiums, and we think this is ok?  If a big company that is profitable, employs thousands of people, and supports local culture paid one of it’s CEO’s $300 million and on average paid people $3 million, the government would likely open an investigation and the public would crucify that company and their product.

How is baseball in St. Louis different than any other large company?

The effects of this outrageous contract to the St. Louis Cardinals would be far reaching.  This means for the next 30 years or so, our club will suffer because we have no (or far less) money for other players now or in the future.  And, if he isn’t able to play the entire time of his contract, we are out not just a player but a ton of money, again!  St. Louis is known for building fantastic players and not spending a ridiculous amount of money doing it.  Our fans are the best and I am certain our love affair with our Cardinals will continue without Albert.  It is sad but true (I really mean that – it would be really sad to see him go).

I have a solution…let’s get him a large trophy or plaque that says: “I am so awesome at baseball that I could make $300 million plus doing so, but I am an even better person who would never do that to St. Louis or Cardinal fans!”  Maybe that will suffice!

I am sure there are opinions, so bring it on…Did I mention I love the Cardinals (and Albert Pujols)?
