Missouri native Kassi Ashton Recently Debuted “The Straw” At The Ryman Auditorium In Nashville

Kassi Ashton entered the consciousness of many country music fans just a few weeks ago when “California, Missouri” began getting radio airplay.

The singer/songwriter capitalized on the buzz from the song about her hometown with a performance recently of “The Straw” at the Ryman Auditorium during the 2018 Country Radio Seminar.  Ashton’s performance came during the Universal Music Group Nashville luncheon, which also included performances by Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Vince Gill and Little Big Town, among others.

“California, Missouri”

Ashton is far from some novelty act. It’s unlikely she’ll disappear when the glow of “California, Missouri” wears off.

As we wrote last month, the cancer survivor is definitely on the radar as one of the Nashville musicians to watch in 2018. She’s been named as such by Bobby Bones, CMT and The Boot.

“California, Missouri” served as the perfect song to introduce Ashton to country music fans. The “black sheep” of her graduating class in Mid-Missouri, Kassi Ashton is now one to watch in Nashville.

“The Straw”

Prior to performing “The Straw” at The Ryman, Ashton shared how the song came about at a recent writing camp.

Ashton was paired with Luke Laird and Lori McKenna during a session when Ashton shared that she had recently gone through a breakup. The old saying “the straw that broke the camel’s back” turned into “The Straw” in the hands of the Nashville trio.

Details on Kassi Ashton’s debut album have not been released yet, but check her out singing “The Straw” below.

Kassi Ashton Channels Shania Twain With Dierks Bentley

If you’re a country music fan and a fan of Nashville you might have heard about the seemingly random musical performances around town.

Kassi Ashton recently joined the band Hot Country Knights onstage at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row in Nashville. The band is a 90’s cover band fronted by Douglas Douglason, who looks a whole lot like Bentley with a blond mullet wig.

Ashton channeled her inner Shania Twain to sing “Any Man of Mine” with the band. It’s something you’ll want to see so we’ve included it below.
