Saint Louis FC Welcomes Charlotte Independence To Toyota Stadium At Soccer Park This Weekend

Saint Louis FC will attempt to get back on the winning track this Saturday as they welcome the Charlotte Independence to Toyota Stadium and World Wide Technology Soccer Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.

After stringing together a streak of three consecutive wins, STLFC (3-1-1) experienced a setback last Saturday in Cincinnati. Saint Louis was unable to contain Djiby, who scored all four goals in FCC’s 4-0 win and was named the United Soccer League Player of the Week.

Charlotte (0-1-2) comes into Saturday’s match having tied its last two games after a season-opening loss to the Charleston Battery. The club played to a 1-1 draw with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds last weekend after seeing the same result the weekend before against Orlando City B.

The club has not actually signed former NFL star Randy Moss, in case you were wondering.

David Spies and David Estrada are two Charlotte players eager for the club to get its first win the of the season. The club is the only one in the USL East to have not recorded a win yet on the season.

What To Expect From Saint Louis FC

Christian Volesky leads STLFC in scoring with three goals on the season and will look to get back on the board this weekend after the team was held scoreless in Cincinnati. Devala Gorrick and the defense will also be looking to bounce back after a rough outing in Ohio. Gorrick is currently second in the USL with 20 saves on the season, one off the league lead.

Aj Cochran, Gorrick and Dragan Stojkov all played the full 90 minutes against FC Cincinnati. The trio has played every minute of the season thus far.

Nikiphoros Vlasos and Matteo Kidd are the lone STLFC Academy products listed on the gameday roster in the USL preview of Saturday’s match. Aedan Stanley and Jack Maher, STLFC Academy players who were signed at the same time as Vlasos and Kidd, are currently in Slovakia with the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team. Fellow St. Louisan Josh Sargent was recently named  the captain of the team for the tournament, which from from April 24-28 in Solvakia
