Microsoft Buying Linked In For $26.2 Billion

The social network that says it’s okay to “connect” with random people to try to sell them things is getting bought for a whole lot of money. Microsoft is buying LinkedIn for a reported $26.2 billion. Microsoft is paying $196 per share in cash.

Hamilton Cast Performs Sans Muskets At Tony Awards

The cast of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton performed during the Tony Awards last night and received a standing ovation. The cast chose to perform without the muskets usually in the performance as a tribute to those lives lost in the Pulse Orlando shooting.

The performance followed a video introduction from President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

Hamilton took home 11 awards during the show.

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda used acceptance speech for best original scored to read a sonnet he had prepared in light of the events in Orlando.

Host James Corden opened the 70th Tony Awards with a touching tribute to victims of the shooting.

Hamilton Coming To St. Louis

The worldwide phenomenon Hamilton is coming to St. Louis. That’s the good news. The bad news is you’ll have to wait awhile to see it. It was announced over the weekend that Hamilton will be part of the 2017-18 season at the Fox Theatre. Competition to host the musical’s tour was high.  The exact dates of the performance will be announced at a later date.

The Conjuring 2 Tops $40 Million In Debut

The Conjuring 2 brought in an estimated $40.35 million in its debut over the weekend. The total easily beat out the debuts of Warcraft and Now You See Me 2, which pulled in about $24.4 million and $23 million, respectively, in their debuts.

Moana Teaser Trailer Released

The teaser trailer for Moana, the upcoming animated film from the team behind Frozen and Zootopia was released last night. Moana follows a young girl, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, pairs up with Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, for an epix adventure.

St. Louis Blues Name Mike Yeo New Head Coach, Bring On Wilson

Former Minnesota Wild head coach Mike Yeo will become the new head coach of the St. Louis Blues starting with the 2017-2018 season. He will join the team’s coaching staff for the upcoming 2016-2017 season as an associate coach to head coach Ken Hitchcock. Yeo, 42, has been the coach of the Wild for the past five seasons.

Former Blues defenseman Rick Wilson will also join the staff as an assistant coach.

Saint Louis FC Routs Tulsa 7-1

The United Soccer League record for goals in a game is eight. Saint Louis FC scored seven in a 7-1 route of the Tulsa Roughnecks on Saturday night at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. Belleville West grad Seth Rudolph made sure to have quite an impact in his first start for the local club, opening the scoring four minutes into the contest. Rudolph would score another goal early in the second half to put STLFC up 4-0. His impressive goal led to a jubuliant call from announcer Bill McDermott and accolades from the USL’s official Facebook account.

Saint Louis FC also received goals from Irvin Herrera (2), Vince Cicciarelli, Jordan Roberts and Jamiel Hardware.

Saint Louis FC is on the road this Saturday against Arizona United SC before returning home to play Portland Timbers 2 on June 25th at World Wide Technology Soccer Park. Tickets are still available from the Saint Louis FC website or by calling 636-680-0997.

Jesse Ventura Award Against Chris Kyle Thrown Out

Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura was previously  awarded $1.8 million in defamation case brought against former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. That award has been thrown out by the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and a new trial has been ordered.

Kyle, whose autobiography American Sniper inspired the movie of the same name, was murdered in February of 2013 by a former Marine he was trying to help.
