St. Louis To Host U.S. Men’s National Team In November

It was announced over the weekend that the U.S. Men’s National Team will play their first home game in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup here in St. Louis in November. The game at Busch Stadium on November 13 will be the team’s first game in St. Louis since 1997 and the first meaningful game since November of 1989. Possible U.S opponents include Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent and Guatemala, among others.

In the later 1990s, St. Louis was a frequent host of USMNT games. The team played two of its five home games here in the qualification rounds for the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

A press conference will take place at 1 pm today at Ballpark Village. Tim Ream of the USMNT and World Cup champion Lori Chalupny of the women’s side will be on hand as well as St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, U.S. Soccer CEO Dan Flynn and St. Louis Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt III.

Country duo Big & Rich had a unique plan for their “Run Away With You” music video. The band invited a real-life couple to their show in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and then had a film crew chronicle the couple’s trip all the way from Nashville to their concert.

Ant-Man Takes Weekend Box Office

In its second weekend of release Ant-Man took the weekend box office crown for the second time. Paul Rudd and company took in an estimated $24.8 million to beat out Pixel‘s $24 million debut. Minions took in an estimated $22.1 million for third place.

Southpaw exceeded expectations with a $16.5 million debut while Paper Towns opened with $12.5 million.

Whitney Houston’s Daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, Passes Away

Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of the late Whitney Houston, passesd away over the weekend. She had been in the hospital since being found in a bathtub back in January, where she was unresponsive. Investigators are looking into the possibility that boyfriend Nick Gordon and his friend Max Lomas, who found Brown in the bathtub, may be guilty of murder in the case. An autopsy on Brown’s body is planned.

Fox Sports Invests $150 Million In DraftKings

DraftKings, the daily fantasy sports company, recently closed a $300 million round of funding. Fox Sports is kicking in $150 million in exchange for 11% of the company. DraftKings, heavily promoted locally on InsideSTL.com and CBS Radio 920, is now valued at $1.2 billion after the funding round. DraftKings will spend about $250 million over three years in advertising with Fox Sports as part of the deal.
