The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fails to crack $100 million

The sequel still pulled in $92 million, but compared to some of the other Spider-Man films it’s a little low. The Other Woman came in second at the box office with $14.2 million and Heaven is for Real came in third with $8.7 million. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is currently fourth with $7.7 million and Rio 2 rounds out the top five with $7.6 million. Those two may swap positions when the final numbers are tallied. God’s Not Dead is still in the top ten in its seventh week of release with $1.7 million. It has now topped $55 million in receipts on a $2 million budget. We’ll have a more in-depth look at the numbers on Thursday in our Weekend Movie Guide.

Police break up 2,000-teen party

This happened in Brampton, Canada. A teenager got permission from his parents to host a part at their partially-built mansion. He decided to promote it on social media outlets. 1,500-2,000 people were there by police estimates and $64,000 in damage was done. Just kids being kids, ya know?

Donald Sterling didn’t want to pay J.J. Redick because he’s white

Donald Sterling didn’t just wake up one day and decide he didn’t like black people. He’s been an asshole forever. USA Today posted a story today about the  former Duke star and current Los Angeles Clipper. The Los Angeles Times had a story yesterday on topic of Donald Sterling and J.J. Redick. Adrian Wojanarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported back in October of 2013 that the deal to bring J.J. Redick was almost nixed by Sterling. Some reports then said that it was because Sterling didn’t want to give a four-year, $27 million contract to a bench player like Redick. Redick himself is now saying that that was only part of Sterling’s gripes. He also says that Sterling questioned whether a white player was worth that in the NBA. V. Stiviano, Sterling’s ex-something, told Barbara Walters that there are many more tapes of Sterling’s conversations with her. There are reports Sterling is now suing the NBA for $1.7 billion.

265 teenage girls still missing in Nigeria

Over two weeks ago, an estimated 265 girls between the ages of 16 and 18 were abducted in Nigeria. Reports are that Boko Haram militants abducted the girls from a school where they had been scheduled to take an exam. Protests are escalating against the Nigerian government and more American media outlets are starting to take notice. Social media is being credited with pushing the issue in the US.

A man claiming to the Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau is featured in a video recently obtained by the Associated Press. In it, he says that he will sell the abducted girls in accordance with the wishes of Allah. Boko Haram is an Islamist militant group that is reportedly receiving training from al Qaeda affiliates. The U.S. State Sate Department is questioning the authenticity of the video.
