The Fate of the Furious Brought In An Estimated $532 Million Worldwide Over Easter Weekend
The Fate of the Furious debuted over the weekend and made up for lackluster U.S. ticket sales with a massive haul overseas. The eighth movie in the Fast and Furious franchise brought in an estimated $532.5 million worldwide to set a new box office record.
The Fate of the Furious stars Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriquez, Ludacris and Charlize Theron.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought in $529 million worldwide during its debut weekend back in 2015, setting the previous record.
F8, as Fate of the Furious is otherwise known, saw most of its revenues over Easter weekened from the overseas market. It’s estimated to have just barely passed the $100 million mark domestically.

Force Awakens brought in $248 million domestically during its opening weekend. The previous film in the Fast and Furious franchise, Furious 7, debuted to the tune of $147.2 million in 2015.
Rhianna Dhillon of BBC Radio 4 shared a simple opinion on why the Fast and Furious movies are so popular overseas.
“A lot of what drags movies like The Avengers down is the plot, and Fast & Furious isn’t trying to compete with those heavy, convoluted storylines. This is just cars smashing into each other and it’s okay to enjoy that.
“This franchise isn’t trying to be anything it’s not. Ultimately, from the bottom up, it doesn’t take itself too seriously.”
Worldwide, the aforementioned Furious 7 topped $1.5 billion in receipts during its theater run. It saw almost 77 percent, or $1.2 million, of its sales from foreign markets.
