You Should Be Watching Runaways, the latest series from Marvel, On Hulu
Marvel’s Runaways, now streaming on Hulu, should be added to your streaming list if it isn’t already on it. The show is based on the comic book series from Marvel of the same name.
The first four episodes of the series are available to stream now on Hulu with a new episode premiering each week.
Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, and Allegra Acosta star as teenagers who stumble upon their parent’s involvement in an evil organization known as Pride. Angel Parker, Ryan Sands, Annie Wersching, Kip Pardue, Ever Carradine, James Marsters, Brigid Brannagh, Kevin Weisman, Brittany Ishibashi, and James Yaegashi portray the parents in the series.

Marvel originally intended for Runaways to be a full-length feature film. Peter Sollett, who directed Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, was even hired back in 2010 to direct the film. At the time, the film was being described “The Breakfast Club with superheros.”
The series focuses on a group of teenagers who find out that their parents are available in a criminal organization known as the Pride.
Brian Vaughan created Runaways back in 2003 for Marvel. In the comic book realm, he has also been honored for Ex Machina and Y: The Last Man. In the world of television, he helmed seasons 3-5 of Lost and the first season of Under The Dome, based on the Stephen King novel.
Fans of the comic book series will immediately notice that the Hulu series doesn’t completely follow the source material. I had never even heard of the comic so,it took articles like this one from Gamespot for me to know about the differences.
Judging by the early reviews of the show, the changes seem to be for the best. Vox refers to the series as a “sparking twist” in a glowing review. Geek.com compares the show to Riverdale in terms on a “teen drama” the appeals to a wide variety of viewers.
Viewers of a certain age who were fans of The O.C. will likely find themselves enjoying Runaways. MTV has a long piece on the similarities between the two shows. Those similarities can likely be explained in part by the fact that Josh Schwartze and Stephanie Savage, the team that produced O.C. and Gossip Girl, are the producers behind the Hulu series.

The first season of Marvel’s Runaways on Hulu is set to span ten episodes, four of which are available to stream as of this writing. New episodes premiere each Tuesday on the streaming network.
