Michael Keaton To Star In McDonald’s Movie The Founder

Michael Keaton To Play Ray Kroc In The Founder

Michael Keaton has been tabbed to play McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc in the upcoming film The Founder, set to be released in theaters on August 5, 2016.

The film will follow the fast-food giant’s origins as a single hamburger stand run by Richard and Maurice MacDonald to the worldwide behemoth it is today, thanks in large part to the involvement of milkshake salesman Ray Kroc.

Laura Dern has been cast to play Ethel Fleming, Kroc’s wife while Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch will play Richard and Maurice McDonald, respectively.

Robert D. Siegel wrote the script for The Founder with John Lee Hancock directing. Siegel is a former editor of The Onion and previously wrote The Wrestler, among other movies. Among the movies Hancock has directed are the sports films The Rookie and The Blindside as well as Saving Mr. Banks, which saw Tom Hanks in the role of Walt Disney.

The Weinstein Company paid $7 million for the rights to The Founder back in February of 2015. They will release the film in theaters on August 5, 2016. Early reports on the film liken the script to that of The Social Network and There Will Be Blood.

Check out the first promotional poster for The Founder below. It features Keaton with his back to the audience starring at a giant McDonald’s logo.
