St. Louis Cardinals return to St. Louis tied 1-1 in the National League Division Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers

The St. Louis Cardinals stunned the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of their NLDS series on Friday night with an epic comeback win. They almost did it again in Game 2 when a two-run home run from Matt Carpenter tied the game at 2 in the top of the eighth. Unfortunately, Matt Kemp hit a solo homer of his own in the bottom of the inning to give the Dodgers the win and tie the best-of-five series. The series now returns to Busch Stadium for games three and four. Check out this collection of photos from Jon Soo Hoo, the official photographer of the Dodgers.

John Lackey will start tonight for the Cardinals. Former Cardinal David Eckstein is among those who speak highly of Lackey’s poise in big games. Tonight’s first pitch is scheduled for 8: 07 pm at Busch Stadium. Tomorrow’s game four will be at 7:37 pm if San Francisco beats Washington tonight or 4:07 pm if the Nationals beat the Giants. The rest of the Cardinals-Dogers series will be televised on Fox Sports 1. Joe Buck will handle the play-by-play with Harold Reynolds and ZTom Verducci handling the analyst duties. Ken Rosenthal will also be on the broadcast.  Reynolds already made news for himself in this series when he brought up the possibility that the Cardinals were stealing signs from the Dodgers. Reynolds talked with Chris Hrabe of KMOX about his accusation. Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is among those saying the whole thing is ridiculous.

Kansas City Royals sweep Anaheim Angels, advance to American League Championship Series

The Royals beat the Angels 8-3 yesterday to sweep their series. The Royals will play the Baltimore Orioles for the American League pennant beginning Friday. Kansas City fans are justifiably celebrating the first Royals playoff run since 1985. Eric Hosmer, who was huge for the Royals in the series invited fans to  McFadden’s Sports Saloon in the Power & Light District last night after the game. He then put down his credit card for free drinks for everyone in the bar for an hour.

St. Louis Rams comeback falls just short in Philadelphia

After being down 34-7 with 2 minutes to go in the third quarter, the Rams stormed back with 21 straight points before falling 34-28 to the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday. After being somewhat suspect early in the game, quarterback Austin Davis drew high praise from Jim Thomas for his play late in the game. davis finished 29-of-49 for 375 yards and 3 touchdowns and zero interceptions.  His counterpart, Nick Foles, completed 24 of 37 passes for 207 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Bryan Burwell of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said that mistakes and penalties are what doomed the Rams on Sunday.

University of Missouri product E.J. Gaines recorded his first career interception and also forced a fumble in the game.

NBA signs $24 billion television deal

The National Basketball Association signed the nine-year deal with ESPN and TNT. The new deal means the league will go from getting about $930 million per year to about $2.67 billion per year. Tom Ziller over at SB Nation says this new deal means NBA player contracts will balloon in a pretty ridiculous way.

The NBA made a move earlier this year with Ozzie and Daniel Silva in preparation for this deal. The brothers famously brokered “the greatest business deal in sports” when their St. Louis Spirits ABA team wasn’t absorbed by the NBA in 1976. The brothers negotiated a $2.23 million cash settlement and one-seventh of the television money from each of the four ABA teams being absorbed. The kicker in that deal was that the arrangement was scheduled to last as long as the league was in existence. The brothers, 81 and 69 respectively, settled with the league earlier this year for a flat payment of $500 million to end the payments. The lump sum payment brought the total haul for the brothers from the deal to an estimated $1 billion.

Katy Perry rocks College GameDay

For whatevever reason, pop star Katy Perry was the celebrity guest on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday. I have no clue what exactly she was wearing but she picked both upsets by Mississippi teams. Perry did a little long-range flirting the Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight during the show. Afterwards, his brother told TMZ that Trevor is attached but he’s single and wants Katy Perry to call him.

Saturday night, she decided to hit the bars in Oxford, Mississippi. Then, this happened.
