Planning to see a movie this weekend? Here’s the RealLifeSTL Weekend Movie Guide for August 2, 2013.

Opening This Weekend

2 Guns

Starring Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington as undercover officers, 2 Guns cost about $74 million to make according to IMDB.

Here’s the trailer

Smurfs 2

This sequel features the voices of Hank Azaria and Niel Patrick Harris as well as Katy Perry. The original Smurfs in 2011 grossed almost $143 million dollars.

Still Playing

The Wolverine

Opening last weekend, this weekend, The Wolverine, grossed $53 million in its opening weekend and has made back $68 million of its estimated $100 million budget so far.

Catch It Before It’s Gone

I saw White House Down last weekend at Keller Plaza Cine 8 and it was completely worth the  $3 admission fee. Don’t go in expecting anything other than a full time. The friend I dragged along said that it was completely unbelievable.  Hopefully it’s something that will never happen, but it sure makes for a good movie.

Now You See Me

This movie didn’t get great reviews on IMDB and the reviewers at Rotten Tomatoes weren’t thrilled with it, but it sounds like a decent time:

“An FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.”

Audiences have liked the movie. It’s grossed over $115 million since opening at the end of May. Considering it doesn’t star any MAJOR stars and “only” cost about $75 million to make, the studio should be pretty happy.
