STL Weekend Event Guide: July 11-14

Your St. Louis weekend event update from Thursday, July 11th through Sunday, July 14th:

A-List Party: St. Louis Magazine’s Premier Annual Party. The event will include an open bar and delicious food from local restaurants. Tickets are $45. Music by DJ Retro Raven and Push The Limit. Must be 21 to enter. The after-party will begin at 10:30pm at Mandarin. This is one of St. Louis’ must-attend events of the year.

8th Annual Let Them Eat Art: A self-guided tour through Downtown Maplewood featuring ‘Night of a Thousand Cupcakes’ – a one thousand cupcake giveaway, live demonstrations by 50 local artisans, live music including headliner Gene Dobbs Bradford Blues Experience and St. Louis favorite Gumbohead, St. Louis Hoop Club performances, Exotic Rhythms belly dance performers, kids activities and of course, delicious food and drink from local establishments plus wine and beer tastings. Place: Downtown Maplewood

Celebrate St. Louis: Fair St. Louis is over, but that doesn’t mean the music has to stop. This weekend, starting at 6pm, you can still get free live music and fireworks. Friday: The music starts at 6:15pm with 2 local acts, Leslie Craig and Brain Bax, then headliner Josh Turner performs at 8:45pm with fireworks afterwards. Saturday: Mathias and The Pirates, then Superhero Killers, then the headliner, The Urge, performs at 9pm with fireworks to follow. There will also be food and drinks available for purchase.

Place: Soldier’s Memorial- Downtown

Meet The Birds: You always hear about dog adoption events, but this is a little different. If you’ve ever had an interest in having a bird as a pet, then check this out. A bird adoption event hosted by STAR (St. Louis Avian Rescue). Birds that will be available for adoption include: African Gre, Alexandrine, Amazons, Budgies/Parakeets, Cockatiels, Cockatoos, Conures, Eclectus, Finches, Lovebirds, Macaws and Quakers. The event will also include a free seminar on basic bird care at noon.

Place: Humane Society Auditorium – 1201 Macklind

Downtown Kirkwood Sidewalk Sale and Peach Festival: A festival featuring peach samples from local farmers as well as peach-related treats and menu items at the Kirkwood Farmer’s Market. The event will also include: a contest for the best locally-grown peach (10am-12pm), music by The Maple Jam Band, bargains from downtown merchants from 10-11am, and picnic–themed activity at Kirkwood Farmers’ Market 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Music Under The Stars: Florissant’s annual free Summer concert series presents Ground Flow Fusion, a high energy multi-genre group featuring Rock, Blues, Jam, Funk and Groove. These events include food and drink available for purchase. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the music under the stars.

Place: St. Ferdinand Park – Florissant

Indie Rock Ice Cream Social: A comedy and music event at The Firebird hosted by Comedy in the Lou. The event will feature live music by: Elsinore, Via Dove, Bear Hive ,Scarlet Tanager. In addition to music, there will be stand-up comedy performances from: Kelsey McClure, Kenny Kinds (I saw him a couple weeks ago at The Dubliner comedy show-he’s hilarious), Emily Hickner, and Jon Venegoni. And to top off the event, free Ice Cream Sundaes will be provided by SerendipityCost is $10

Boogie Stomp: An evening with two of the greatest jazz/boogie/stride/blues pianists in the world: Arizona Blues Hall of Fame inductee: Arthur Migliazza and midwest blues, boogie and rock mainstay: Boogie Bob Baldori. One night packed with crazy talent from two amazing performers. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance online.

Place: Foundry Art Centre – 520 N Main – St. Charles

Comedy Night at The Dubliner: You can catch the hilarious Joe Marlotti, a 20-year stand-up comedy veteran this Saturday at The Dubliner. He’s headlined some of the best clubs in the country, including The Improv and The Funny Bone. He’s worked with some of the biggest stars: Jeff Foxworthy, Drew Carey, and Dennis Miller. He will be performing with Dan Chopin and Andrew Frank in the Leinster Room. Tickets are $10. You can also check out open mic night on July 12 at 8pm for only $5. If you are brave, get there at 7:30 and sign up to test your comedic timing in front of a live audience.

Soul Food Festival: An event featuring traditional soul food cooking combined with live music from award winning performers: Gladys Knight, Troop, Silk, Urban Mystic and Peabo Bryson. The festival supports various community resource agencies through complimentary tickets and/or financial contributions with particular focus on battered women. The festival provides a positive focus and safe environment where these women can come and receive therapy for the mind, body and soul. GA ticket price: $35. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.
