St. Patrick’s Day 2013

Another weekend, another celebration. St. Patrick’s Day is upon us and it doesn’t matter that you’re not Irish, not lucky, or don’t like the color green, you will not be able to escape the St. Patrick’s Day festivities in St. Louis. So let me go ahead and tell you about the spread so you can start making plans now.

There are 3 main events to choose from:

Downtown:

Irish Dinner: The Hilton at the Ballpark is hosting the annual Irish dinner, a formal evening with cocktails, dinner, dancing and introductions to the dignitaries who have arrived from Ireland and various places throughout the U.S. to join in our St. Louis festivities.

Date: Friday, March 15th

Time: Cocktail reception: 6pm, Dinner 7:30pm

Cost: $90

St. Patrick’s Day Run: The 35th Annual Run for The Irish 5-mile run through the streets of downtown and midtown is one of the largest runs in St. Louis. The run starts at Broadway & Walnut through downtown and midtown to the 4 mile marker at Olive & 20th, where the final 400-meter sprint to the finish begins and ends at Olive & 8th. There will be a bag check at the Ballpark Hilton for $5 before the race. Runners can head to the Irish Village at Kiener Plaza after the race to watch the parade and enjoy a post-race Michelob Ultra.

Time: 9am

Cost: $29 (registration ends on March 14)

Murphy the Leprechaun

The 44th Annual Downtown STL Parade: Begins at 12pm at the corner of 18th and Market on Saturday. It will head East on Market and end at the corner of Broadway and Market. While it’s no Mardi Gras Parade, St. Louis’ St. Patty’s Day Parade is noted as one of the top in the country. It will have approximately 120 participants, consisting of marching bands, floats, cartoon character balloons, clowns and much more. There will be tons of food and drink booths along the parade route as well as music and entertainment in Kiener Plaza aka Irish Village all day.

*New this year, there will be a balloon inflation party at 18th and Chestnut from 8-11am, where kids can watch the cartoon character balloons being inflated before the parade.

Parties:

Cottleville:

St. Patrick’s Day Run: The Run for the Helmet begins at 8am at the Fire Station, loops through Cottleville and ends at 9:30am at Sherlock’s Steak & Seafood for the post race party and award ceremony. It’s a 7K Run or a 2 mile Fun Run. Registration fee is $30 (in advance) and includes run t-shirt, RFID chip timing and refreshments at the finish line.

Date: Saturday, March 16

Time: 8am

Cost: $30 before March 13th, $35 after

5th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The parade will begin at Cottleville Pkwy & Weiss Rd, travel down Highway N through historic Cottleville and end at Francis Howell Central. the parade has approximately 100 participants, with marchers, floats, clowns in golf carts and more. There will be free shuttles running from Old American Furniture, St. Charles Community College and Warren Elementary to take people to and from the parade.

Time: 12pm

Dogtown:

Ancient Order of Hiberians St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The annual Dogtown parade has been sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hiberians since 1984. It is always held on St. Patick’s Day and is the most widely known St. Patrick’s Day event in St. Louis. It starts at the corner of Tamm & Oakland and travels down Tamm, ending at Manchester. There will be food and beer booths set up along the parade route.

Date: Sunday, March 17th

Time: 12:30pm

*New this year: The Dogtown Merchants Association is enforcing a No Cooler regulation this year, so please do not bring coolers.

Other neighborhood St. Patrick’s Day events:

Maple Grove has a pretty great St. Patrick’s Day celebration planned as well. Check out Claddagh Irish Pub at 8am for Kegs & Eggs, plus live Irish entertainment all day plus other nearby family fun events. And Chesterfield bars indulge in the celebration as well with bars like Lester’s and Miller’s Crossing offering corned beef and cabbage and drink specials all day. So pick your place and enjoy the festivities….and don’t forget to wear green!
