Real Life STL

Art of Food 2012

The Koken Art Factory hosts a variety of events throughout the year. One of the most well known is Naughti Gras. However, in addition to hosting “real art” shows, this weekend they are hosting Art of Food. This is a great event to benefit Slow Food St. Louis.

No, Slow Food does not mean your food takes too long to make, rather it is good food produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare, or your health. Slow Food St. Louis is an organization that promotes fresh, local, and sustainably-produced food, biodiversity, and the preservation of food traditions. They believe that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work and that we, as the food eaters, should know where our food comes from, how it tastes, and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Koken Art Factory and Slow Food St. Louis, together, are hosting this delicious, fun filled event where chefs from top area restaurants will be creating delicious art-inspired hors d’oeuvres using fresh ingredients prepared in slow food style.

Participating Restaurants: Niche, Sidney Street Cafe, Farmhaus, Kadli’s, Local Harvest Cafe, Companion Bakery, The Crossing, Entre, Kakao, The Mad Tomato, Sanctuaria, Home Wine Kitchen, Entre, Salume Beddu, Pint Size Bakery and Kitchen Kulture.

Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 at the door. In addition to a night of delicious, artistic and well-prepared edibles, there will also be a silent auction with items from local artists, boutiques, wineries and restaurants as well as live music performed by The Resistance Organ Trio and a cash bar which will include local beer from Schlafly and Perennial Artisan Ales, among other beverages.

It’s like a more nutritious, more intimate version of Taste of St. Louis and you’re supporting local  farmers and better food initiatives at the same time!
