Arch Rival Roller Girls Roller Derby Championship

Saturday, April 28th is the perfect opportunity to check out something new.  The Arch Rival Roller Girls championship.  Lots of pink, knee socks, and brutality.

The game looks complicated with no balls or goals and such but it basically goes 5 on 5 with 1 “jammer” and 4 “blockers” on each team.  The jammer starts in the back and tries to make it through the pack of blockers.  Once she makes it through once, each opposing blocker she then passes equals a point.  I know it is more complicated than that really watered down explanation but that should be enough so that you at least know what is going on.  I’ve thought about trying out for a team but alas my skating skills are severely lacking, but I think I would make an excellent blocker.

This weekend’s championship will be held at the Chaifetz Arena and is the perfect opportunity to check out this alternative sport. Doors open at 6pm and the first bout starts at 7pm.  It’s certain to be an exciting night.
