"You have to engage or you’re going to be left behind"

Quote from YouTube/Google Senior Director for Content Partnerships EMEA, Patrick Walker, from The Register.

Google’s YouTube is said to be launching an online movie rental service, streaming new releases from major Hollywood film studios such as Sony, Warner Bros, Universal, and Lionsgate for just $2 per movie. Netflix is the current leader in the movie streaming market, with 23.6 million subscribers.

This reminded me of a recent post on Facebook Launching Deals by our own blogger Melissa. Only what I noticed when I was researching more about this was that Google also recently launched a Groupon-type application called Google Offers(after they failed to buy out Groupon). Further research led me to find that Google also followed in the footsteps of Facebook with Google Buzz  and of MapQuest with Google Maps.

Don’t get me wrong, Google is my search engine of choice, and I know I don’t have ALL the facts, but with thousands of creative-minded employees, can’t they come up with their own ideas instead of trying to take over everyone else’s?
