Last Time Out For Saint Louis FC

Saint Louis FC earned three points last weekend with a hard-fought 4-3 win at home over the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The local club went up 2-0 early in the contest on goals by Daniel Jackson and Seth Rudolph in the first five minutes of action. Tampa Bay stormed back to draw even by the 16th minute and take the lead going into halftime.

Saint Louis FC drew even in the 67th minute on Rudolph’s second goal of the match and got the game-winner in the 89th minute from Konrad Plewa.

Rudolph was named USL Man of the Match, earned the Pleats Cleaners Man of the Match Award from fans on Twitter, was named the Louligans Man of the Match by the supporters group after the match and was named to the USL Team of the Week for week 21 of the season.

Tampa Bay defender Damion Lowe, whose ejection from Sunday’s match forced the Rowdies to play a man down for the final minutes of the match, was transferred to Ik Start in Norway earlier this week.

Riverhounds Coming Off 3-0 Win Over Harrisburg City

Chevaughn Walsh scored a brace of his own last weekend for Pittsburgh. Romeo Parkes assisted on one of Walsh’s goals and scored another of his own in the team’s 3-0 win over Harrisburg City.

With the win the Riverhounds moved to 6-8-9 on the season. At 27 points, they sit just above STLFC in the USL East.

Walsh’s scores against Harrisburg were his fourth and fifth goals of the season. Corey Hertzog leads the club with 7 goals on the season.

Chevaugh Walsh, a 22-year old Jamaican, signed with the Riverhounds last August after being named the 2016 Premier Development League Most Valuable Player. Walsh scored 14 goals and won the league’s Golden Boot while playing for the Ocean City Nor’easters.

Walsh played one year of college soccer at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, leading the team to the NJCAA Division 1 national tournament. Walsh scored 25 goals and recorded 14 assists in 20 games in Hillsboro.

Hertzog, a 27-year old from Pennsylvania who was selected by the New York Red Bulls in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft, led that nation in scoring during his junior year at Penn State back in 2010. He was also a finalist for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermman Trophy and was TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Player of the Season that year.

Aside from the earlier-mentioned forwards, Pittsburgh will look to have big games from Jamal Jack and Trey Mitchell.  Jack, who won three league titles playing in his native Trinidad, has been one of the club’s top defenders this season.

Mitchell has conceded 15 goals in his 16 appearances this season and has recorded 6 clean sheets. The Riverhounds will be relying heavily on the goalkeeper as they push for a spot in the USL playoffs with Keasel Broome ruled out for the remainder of the season.

What To Expect Saturday From Saint Louis FC

With 11 games remaining in the season and the club sitting out of a playoff position in the conference, every point is extremely important for Saint Louis FC. The club took a step in the right direction with the win on Sunday, the first in a stretch of three games in eleven days. Saturday’s contest is another opportunity before Tulsa comes to town on Wednesday.

With three games in less than two weeks, this stretch of games is an opportunity for Preki to utilize his roster’s depth. Against Tampa Bay , Octavio Guzman and A.J. Cochran were among the players that Preki rested. Austin Ledbetter played the full 90 minutes on the back line while Tyler David again proved his versatility playing 63 minutes at forward.

Milan Petosevic was a 63rd minute substitute and immeditly made his presence felt. Look for Milan to start either Saturday’s match or Wednesday’s match.

Christian Volesky was also a second half substitute against Tampa Bay. Look for him to start Saturday. Although he leads the club with four goals, he hasn’t scored since June 2 and three of his goals came during a three-game stretch early in the season. It’s vital for STLFC that Volesky regains his scoring touch.

Fans should also expect to see teenager Aeden Stanley in one of the next two matches. Wes Charpie is reportedly back from injury and training with the team. Fans can expect to see him as well during this stretch.

36 players in the league are one yellow card away from a one-game suspension entering this week’s matches. Surprisingly, not a single one is on the local squad. That’s good news for Preki as it allows midfielders Ivan Mirkovic and Dragan Stojkov to play with their typical reckless abandon. (Ok, they would play the same either way but at least no one has to worry about an accumulation suspension.)
