Recapping Last Weekend

Annabelle: Creation easily took the weekend box office crown with an opening weekend topping $35 million in receipts. The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature disappointed with an opening weekend take of just $8.3 million.

Dunkirk brought in $10.9 million in its fourth weekend of release to pass the $150 million mark at the domestic box office.

The Glass Castle fell just shy of $4.7 million in its debut. It is worth noting, however, that the film opened on just 1,461 screens nationwide. Dunkirk, in comparison, was still playing on 3,762 screens in its fourth weekend of release.

Opening This Weekend

The Hitman’s Bodyguard

Ryan Reynolds, Gary Oldman, Salma Hayek and Samuel L. Jackson star in The Hitman’s Bodyguard, in theaters this weekend. Jackson is a professional hit man and Reynolds is the bodyguard hire to protect him.

Peter Travers at Rolling Stone did not appreciate The Expendables 3 and holds it against director Patrick Hughes in his review of Hitman’s Bodyguard.

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $16.7 million for The Hitman’s Bodyguard.

Logan Lucky

Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Katie Holmes and Daniel Craig star in the heist film Logan Lucky, in theaters this weekend. Riley Keough, Seth MacFarlane, Hillary Swank and Katherine Waterston are also among the cast.

Logan Lucky was directed by Steven Soderbergh from a screenplay written by “Rebecca Blunt.” However, it’s rumored that “Rebecca Blunt” the screenwriter doesn’t really exist. The Hollywood Reporter is among the outlets citing a source speculating that Jules Asner, Soderbergh’s wife, actually wrote Logan Lucky.

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $13.2 million for Logan Lucky.

See The Big Sick This Weekend At Keller 8

The Big Sick — starring Kumail Nanjiani, Holly Hunter, Zoe Kazan and Ray Romano — has been getting rave reviews since its release. It has also managed to earn a respectable $37 million at the domestic box office despite playing on a relatively small number of screens nationwide.

The Big Sick opens at Keller 8 Cinema in South County this weekend, along with Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

Make It A Redbox Night With Snatched

Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer star in Snatched, the story of a mother and daughter that take an exotic vacation. Things of course don’t go as planned and it’s an overall trainwreck, though not nearly as good as Trainwreck.

Ike Barinholtz’s supporting role is a highlight of the film.

Rent Snatched this weekend from your local Redbox. King Arthur and How To Be A Latin Lover are also now available to rent.
