STLFC Gets Back In Winning Column, Beats Toronto FC II 2-0

Saint Louis FC made its triumphant return to Toyota Stadium at World Wide Technology Soccer Park over the weekend and earned a 2-0 win over Toronto FC II. The win was the club’s first in United Soccer League play since April 12. The three points gives STLFC fifteen on the season, good enough for 8th in the USL East, despite playing 2-3 games less than some clubs above them.

Saint Louis FC (4-3-3) is back in action at Toyota Stadium this Sunday against Bethlehem Steel FC. Kick off is set for 4 pm. Head to SaintLouisFC.com for tickets.

AJ Cochran beat Toronto FC II goalkeeper Mark Pais with a header in the 23rd minute to open the scoring Friday. Pais. a native of St. Louis, was playing his first match at Soccer Park since joining Toronto this offseason after two years playing for the local club.

Christian Volesky got back in scoring column in the 49th minute with an assist from Jose Angulo. The goal was his fourth of the season. Volesky and Angulo now lead the club with four goals apeice in USL play.

Devala Gorrick earned the clean sheet for Saint Louis FC. Gorrick has been one of the top goalkeepers in the USL for the past several years, but had hit somewhat of a rough patch in his first season in Saint Louis.

17-year old Aedan Stanley played a full 90 minutes on the back line on Friday night. Stanley is a Columbia, Illinois native and a product of the St. Louis Scott Gallagher Academy. In the 53rd minute, the Young Reds threatened to get on the scoreboard with a rocket of a shot that beat Gorrick. Stanley was standing just off the goal line and headed the ball up and over the crossbar.

Tickets are now on sale for the Wednesday June 14th matchup between Saint Louis FC and the Chicago Fire in the 4th round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
