The three-year old thoroughbreds will be on display this Saturday at Churchhill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.  Classic Empire at 4-1 Odds is the favorite to win the 143rd Kentucky Derby while Soneteer and Fast and Accurate are the longshots at 50-1.

Post time is set for 5:34 PM CST with NBC providing coverage starting at 11 AM on NBCSN and 1:30 PM on NBC.

Among the horses in the field on Saturday is Patch with 30-1 odds. Patch lost his left eye in June of last year after an ulcer developed in it.

Classic Empire, the favorite to win, will start in the 14th post position. Just two horses since 1900 have won the Kentucky Derby from that position. That statistic is courtesy of OddsShark, which also has the 2017 Kentucky Derby Pole Positions and Odds for each horse on Saturday.

Among the trainers is Steve Asmussen, who has three horses set to run on Saturday. Asmussen’s horses have won a record 7,600 races, but never the Kentucky Derby.

For the first time in more than 30 years, Tom Hammond will not be leading the coverage of the Derby for NBC. In his place will be Mike Tirico. Tirico was also recently named the successor to Bob Costas on NBC’s Olympic coverage earlier this year. He’ll step into that role for the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Closer to home, Mike Tirico will host the University of Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame Gala in September.
