Kong: Skull Island Opening In Movie Theaters Across St. Louis This Weekend
Kong: Skull Island has theaters around St. Louis all to itself this weekend as the only movie opening in wide release. Rogue One and Manchester By The Sea begin showing at Keller 8 Cinema. Trolls, Doctor Strange, and Almost Christmas are among the movies now available to rent at Redbox.
Kong: Skull Island opens tonight at MX Movies in downtown St. Louis. Logan and Get Out will also be showing throughout the weekend.
Recapping Last Weekend
Logan rode stellar reviews to an opening weekend of $88.4 million to easily take the weekend box office. Get Out added 157 screens in its second weekend of release and fell just 15.4 percent from its opening weekend. Jordan Peele’s film brought in $28.2 million in receipts over the weekend.
The Shack opened with $16 million in receipts while Before I Fall brought in $4.7 million.
Opening This Weekend
Kong: Skull Island
Kong: Skull Island, in theaters this weekend, isn’t like the Kong films of 1976 and 2005 that largely disapointed theater-goers. Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson and Brie Larson star in this film from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Set in 1973 at the tail end of the Vietnam War, Hiddleston is a former British SAS officer sent to explore Skull Island and the mysteries it promises. Brie Larson is “anti-war photographer” Mason Weaver along for the adventure.
St. Louis native John Goodman plays a pivitol role in the film as Tom Randa. Randa sets up the expedition to Skull Island. Goodman has been a lifelong fan of King Kong since seeing the original 1933 film when he was just 10 years old.
Positive reviews, like this one from Michael Phillips at the Chicago Tribune, are a welcome sight for fans of the giant ape. Skull Island is the second film in the MonsterVerse from Legendary and brings us closer to 2020’s Godzilla vs. Kong.

Rogue One and Manchester By The Sea make their way to second-run theaters this weekend. Both will begin showing at Keller 8 Cinemas in South County tomorrow.
