John Oliver On The American Health Care Act

John Oliver took on the Republican health care bill, or the American Health Care Act, on Last Week Tonight over the weekend. The catheter cowboy returned to explain things to President Donald Trump and Oliver took quite the shot at Tucker Carlson.

Villanova Earns Overall #1 See For 2017 NCAA Tournament

Villanova became the first team since the 2007 Florida Gators to earn an overall #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament the year after winning the championship. Kansas, North Carolina and Gonzaga are the other #1 seeds in the tournament this year.

Tournament play begins tomorrow with Kansas State playing Wake Forest and Mount St. Mary’s playing New Orleans in the First Four. North Carolina Central will play UC-Davis and Providence will play USC on Wednesday in the other First Four games before the Round of 64 starts on Thursday.

Michigan will play Oklahoma State and Notre Dame will play Princeton this Thursday at 11:15 AM (CST) to really get March Madness 2017 started.

Karissa Schweizer Wins 2nd National Championship

University of Missouri junior Karissa Schweizer finished first in the 5,000m run at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend to win her second National Championship. Schweizer was the talk of the running world back in November when she won the NCAA cross country national championship.

Schweizer’s winning time in the 5,000m run of 15:19.14 was the 6th fastest in collegiate history.

She became the fifth two-time national champion in school history and the first female student-athlete to accomplish the feat with her win. She barely missed becoming Missouri’s first three-time National Champion later in the weekend when she finished second in the 3,000m run, a mere .13 seconds behind the winner.

Kong: Skull Island Debuts To $61 Million

Kong: Skull Island had an impressive debut over the weekend at the box office, taking in an estimated $61 million domestically. The film also took in an estimated $81.6 million in foreign markets for a take of $142.6 million worldwide.

Logan brought in an estimated $37.9 millon in its second weekend of release to bring it’s two-week domestic total to over $152 million. The LEGO Batman Movie has earned the most of any 2017 release thus far at $159 million after five weeks of release.

Missouri Tigers Win 15th In A Row

The Missouri baseball team extended its winning streak to 15 yesterday with a walk-off 3-2 win over Appalachian State. At 15-1, this team can now claim the best start to a season in program history. The 1985 team also started 15-1.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the 9th inning, Tiger sophomore Brian Sharp hit a solo home run to the opposite field to tie the game. Missouri then loaded the bases before Australian Robbie Glendinning won the game with a liner between two diving infielders, driving in pinch-runner Johnny Balsamo.

Missouri is in its first year under head coach Steve Bieser, who was hired back in June to replace longtime coach Tim Jamieson.

Ed Sheeran Will Appear On Game Of Thrones

The creators of Game of Thrones on HBO had a surprise casting announcement to reveal over the weekend at the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas. Speaking as a festival panel on Sunday, creators D.B. Weiss and David Denioff told a story about singer Ed Sheeran and his involement in the show. Sheeran was invited to the set to surprise the show’s Maisie Williams. He ended up filming a few scenes for the show while he was there. Details of Sheeran’s role were not revealed.

Failed Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer To Get Severance Package Worth $23 Million

As CEO of Yahoo Marissa Mayer had directed the acquisition of 53 companies. None of them were able to stop Yahoo’s fall. Most of Yahoo is being sold to Verizon and it was announced today that Mayer will not be going over to be the company’s CEO. The parts of Yahoo not sold will be used to form a new company named Altaba.

It hasn’t been announced whether Mayer will stay on at Yahoo. A regulatory filing revealed today that Mayer will receive a severance package worth $23 million.

Gordmans Files For Bankruptcy

Discount department store chain Gordman Stores has filed for bankruptcy with estimated debt of $131 million. The company plans to liquidate its inventory and other assets. The 100-store chain with six stores in the St. Louis area can trace its roots back to a clothing shop in Omaha, Nebraska run by Sam Richman, a Russian immigrant. Gordmans currently employs just over 5,000 people.
