Sing and Passengers Hit Theaters This Christmas
Passengers, Sing & Why Him? Open In Theaters This Weekend
Passengers, Why Him?, Fences and Sing debut in movie theaters around St. Louis this weekend. Trolls, Allied and Doctor Strange begin showing at Keller 8 Cinema. Suicide Squad is among the movies now available to rent at Redbox.
Why Him? opens tonight at MX Movies in downtown St. Louis. Office Christmas Party and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will also be showing throughout the weekend.
Recapping Last Weekend
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story scored at the box office last weekend with a debut of $155 million. Moana pulled in $12.7 in its fourth weekend of release while Collateral Beauty debuted with $7.1 million.
Opening This Weekend
Sing
Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Hudson and Taron Egerton are just a few of the stars that lend their voices to the characters in Sing.
If you leave the theater in a down mood after seeing Sing, you probably have some different problems you need help with. Some of the cast members joined Paul McCartney, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots recently for a wonderful rendition of “Wonderful Christmastime.”
Todd M. Thatcher predicts Sing receipts of $55.3 million for Friday to Monday and $74.1 million from its opening yesterday to Monday.

Passengers
Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are stranded on a spaceship headed to a distant planet in Passengers, in theaters now. Pratt and Lawrence are just two of thousands of people frozen in a deep sleep on a trip to recolonize on a distant planet. The pair wakes up 90 years ahead of schedule. Is there a reason? The trailer sure teases the possibility of that.
Lawrence saw modest success last year during the Christmas season with Joy, for which she was nominated for both Oscar and Golden Globes Best Actress Awards.
After starring with Bradley Cooper in Guardians of the Galaxy, Pratt will step into Cooper’s typical role opposite Jennifer Lawrence. Cooper and Lawrence have starred together in Joy, American Hustle, Serena and Silver Linings Playbook.
(In case you were wondering, J-Law and Cooper are not an item and Bradley will never sleep with her.)
Todd M. Thatcher predicts receipts of $31.4 million for Friday to Monday for Passengers and $42 million total from its opening yesterday to Monday.

Fences
Fences stars Denzel Washington and Viola Davis and is based on the 1983 play written by August Wilson. Wilson also wrote the screenplay while Washington also directs.

Zoey Deutch, Bryan Cranston and James Franco star in Why Him? It also features Cedric the Entertainer and Megan Mullally, among others. Cranston and Mullally aren’t exactly thrilled when Laird wants to ask their daughter Stephanie for her hand in marriage.
Todd M. Thatcher predicts receipts of $13.2 million for Why Him? from Friday to Monday.
