Former CIA Officer Evan McMullin Is A Candidate For President of the United States And You Can Vote For Him In Missouri

Many Americans are frustrated that their options on Election Day for President of the United States are basically limited to either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. Those two are the nominees from the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, respectively. While Gary Johnson and Dr. Jill Stein and the other candidates that you made have heard of, what do you know about Evan McMullin?

Evan McMullin is an independent candidate for President of the United States in the 2016 election. He is an official write-in candidate in Missouri.
Evan McMullin is an independent candidate for President of the United States in the 2016 election. He is an official write-in candidate in Missouri.

If you’re like me, you had never heard of Mr. McMullin before FiveThirtyEight posted an article about him on the evening of October 13th. The article described a long-shot scenario where Evan McMullin could become the 45th President of the United States. McMullin, a Mormon, would have to win the popular vote in Utah first. The 6 Utah electoral college votes could then keep neither Trump nor Clinton from getting the 270 votes needed there. McMullin’s name would then have to go to the new House of Representatives as one of the top three vote-getters. There are some other details in there, but that’s the gist of it.

As an independent, McMullin isn’t on the ballot in every state like Clinton, Trump and Libertarian Gary Johnson. If he isn’t on the ballot, you can just write him in, correct? Well, not in every state. 8 states don’t allow you to write in a candidate at all. 32 require prior registration. 10 states allow you to write in any name you want.

Where does Evan McMullin stand in Missouri? He is officially registered as a write-in candidate and votes for him will be recognized. Other eligible write-in candidates are Tom Hoefling, Laurence Kotlikoff and Marshall Schoenke.

Who is Evan McMullin?

Evan McMullin was born in 1976 in Provo, Utah. He earned a Bachelor’s  from Brigham Young University in International Law and Diplomacy.  He then went on to earn his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

McMullin was completing his CIA training at the agency’s headquarters around the time of the terrorist attacks of September 11th. He would go on to complete missions around the world before completing his sertvice in 2011. McMullin would then move on to Goldman Sachs, where he dealt in the field of International Banking.

Evan McMullin served as a senior advisor to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and then moved on to become the chief policy director for the House Republican Conference.
