Reddit CEO Admits To Editing Posts Critical Of Him

The 2016 U.S. Presidential election brought out a whole bunch. Whether you call things good or bad, some people were just overcome by everything and did incredibly stupid things. Steve Huffman, the chief executive of Reddit, did something that may top the list for CEOs. Huffman has admitted to using his administrative access to edit user comments that were critical of him on a very popular corner of the site.

The edits didn’t happen on some obscure portion of the site, they happened on the r/The_Donald subreddit, a very popular, pro-Trump section.

According to The Washington Post, Huffman would edit posts critical of him by swapping out his name for the name of a member of the pro-Trump crowd. The anti-Huffman posts would then look instead like they were attacking the pro-Trump group.

The Reddit CEO has said that he intended the edits as a joke to show others what he has been experiencing. Members of the Reddit community have been at odds with the leaders of the comapny for awhile now. Reddit users have in-turn been at odds with the company’s leadership and some have routinely pushed the envelope concerning the Reddit user guidelines.

Los Angeles Rams Lose In Embarassing Fashion

To the delight of many St. Louis football fans, the Los Angeles Rams got embarassed yesterday by the New Orleans Saints 49-21 in New Orleans.  The Saints offense, led by quarterback Drew Brees, put up 555 yards of offense and scored on 7 of their first 11 posessions. The Rams’ defense had been the best in the league in the last four weeks, but did not fare well in Gregg Williams’ return to New Orleans, where he won a Super Bowl and is remembered as the infamous leader of Bountygate.

(Author’s note: I have met Gregg Williams multiple times and he’s a really good guy. His family is great as well. Don’t lump him in with awful people like Jeff Fisher and Stan Kroenke.)

The last time the Rams defense gave up 49 or more points? 2002 when Kansas City also scored 49. Trumaine Johnson of the Rams summed up things pretty well in the locker room post-game.

“We got our ass beat.”

Rookie Jared Goff again got the start at quarterback for the Rams. He completed 20 of 32 passes for 214 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw an interception. The #1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft became latest opposing QB to top 200 yards passing at the Superdome this season. Each of the 5 quarterbacks to visit New Orelans this season before Goff passed that mark. Goff’s 214 yards is the lowest total of the six.

Todd Gurley again was kept in check as he ran 13 times for 50 yards. He also caught 4 passes for 39 yards. After topping 1,000 rushing yards last season with 1,106, the second-year back has just 641 yards through 11 games this season. Gurley last eclipsed 100 yards rushing in a game at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis on December 13, 2015.

Hackers Infiltrate San Francisco Transport System, Demand $70,000

Criminal hackers broke into the San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency over the weekend and demanded 100 Bitcoin, worth $70,000, to release the network. The Ransomware hack resulted in ticketing machines being turned off and riders getting free rides as a result. The SF Muni fare machines are back up and running as of today and the system is said to be free of any malicious software.

Missouri Tigers Beat Arkansas In Season Finale

Fans of the Missouri Tigers football team were not optimistic heading into Friday afternoon’s contest against the Arkansas Razorbacks in Columbia. The team had struggled to a 3-8 record on the season and would be without star running back Damarea Crockett. Crockett was arrested shortly after the team returned from Tennessee last Sunday for possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana. Coach Barry Odom also fired defensive line coach Jackie Shipp earlier in the week. Shipp had been traveled with the team to Tennessee last weekend, but was sent home before the game following an altercation with a Mizzou player.

The devoted Mizzou fans that did fill a portion of Memorial Stadium on Friday saw the Tigers beat Arkansas 28-24 after being down 24-7 at halftime. Sophmore quarterback Drew Lock completed 16 of 26 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown to Johnathon Johnson. Nate Strong ran for two touchdowns for Missouri.

Fidel Castro Dead At 90

Long-time Cuban leader Fidel Castro has passed away at the age of 90, according to reports released over the weekend. While Castro passed on much of his power in 2006 after a serious illness, he was still seen as the ruler of Cuba. Fidel’s brother, Raúl Castro, will take over leadership of the country.

Fidel Castro first came to power in Cuba in 1959 after he led a Communist revolution that toppled dictator Fulgencio Batista‘s regime.

News of the death of Fidel Castro was met with mixed reactions around the world. Cuban-Americans in Miami threw one hell of a party. Some African leaders praised Castro upon his death.

Juanita Castro, Fidel’s sister, was saddened by the death of her brother, but is not to be considered a Fidel Castro supporter. She hasn’t spoken to him or set foot in Cuba in more than 50 years and is an outspoken critic of his regime, accusing him of betraying his country and making false promises.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau praised and complimented Castro in his statements and was met with an outpouring of criticism on social media.

The activist group Black Lives Matter posted an essay on Medium in praise of Fidel Castro.

We are feeling many things as we awaken to a world without Fidel Castro. There is an overwhelming sense of loss, complicated by fear and anxiety. Although no leader is without their flaws, we must push back against the rhetoric of the right and come to the defense of El Comandante.
