Arrival, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Almost Christmas and Shut In Among Movies Opening In Theaters This Weekend
Arrival, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Shut-In and Almost Christmas debut in movie theaters around St. Louis this weekend. Deepwater Horizon, Sully and Storks open at Keller 8 Cinema. The Legend of Tarzan and Ice Age: Collision Course are among the movies now available to rent at Redbox.
Almost Christmas opens tonight at MX Movies in downtown St. Louis. Boo! A Madea Halloween and Doctor Strange will also be showing throughout the weekend.
Recapping Last Weekend
Doctor Strange had quite the opening weekend last weekend, bringing in more than $85 million to easily win the weekend box office. Trolls had a pretty good debut of its own with $46.5 million in receipts. Hacksaw Ridge, the WWII film directed by Mel Gibson, brought in $15.2 million in its debut.
Boo! A Madea Halloween fell below the $10 million mark in its third weekend, bringing in $7.7 million. The Tyler Perry film with a budget of $20 million has already brought in $65 million at the box office.
Opening This Weekend
Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Foresst Whitaker star in Arrival, in theaters this weekend. Amy Adams is recruited to communicate with an alien race that has descended on earth. Lawrence Toppman of the Charlotte Observer called it possibly the “best film of 2016,” but leaves the reason why a mystery.

Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk
Kristen Stewart, Vin Diesel, Steve Martin and Joe Alwyn are among the stars in director Ang Lee’s latest film, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk. Alwyn plays Billy Lynn, a soldier who comes back from war and is featured on a victory tour. Flashbacks tell the realities of war.

Need to get your horror movie fix in this weekend? Shut-In is the movie for you. Naomi Watts stars as a widowed child psychologist in this thriller that also features Charlie Heaton playing the young boy at the center of the story. Oliver Platt and Jacob Tremblay also star.
Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $5.7 million for Shut-In.
Gabrielle Union, Danny Glover, Omar Epps and Mo’Nique star in Almost Christmas, in theaters this weekend. Pete Hammond over at Deadline called this film a “surprisingly funny and engaging” flick in his review of the film. He went on to further praise the film.
This is one of those comedies that just swings for the fences and reaches them more than once, with some scenes so big on laughs I had a hard time hearing all the dialogue at the packed screening I attended.
