Recapping Last Weekend

Ben Affleck and The Accountant found success at the box office last weekend, debuting with $24.7 million in receipts. The film easily took the top spot at the weekend box office over the $12.2 million second weekend of The Girl on the Train. Kevin Hart: What Now? brought in $11.7 million in its debut. Max Steel brought in $2.2 million in its first weekend of release.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back

Tom Cruise returns to theaters this weekend as Jack Reacher in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. As much as I still don’t like that this Scientologist was picked to portray Lee Child’s character on the big screen, this movie looks like it will be pretty good. I loved the book, much like all of Child’s books in the series.

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $23.9 million for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.

Boo! A Madea Halloween

Tyler Perry is back as Madea  and all of her friends in Boo! A Madea Halloween in theaters this weekend. This film marks the sixth Madea movie for Perry, dating back to Madea’s Family Reunion in 2006.  The character was first introduced to audiences in 2005’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman, however. 2013’s A Madea Christmas opened in theaters with $16 million on its way to $52.5 million at the box office.

Perry thinks theater-goers should see this film because the United States of America needs Mabel “Madea” Simmons.

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $12.5 million for Boo! A Madea Halloween.

Keeping Up with the Joneses

Isla Fisher and Zach Galifianakis are suspicious when Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot move in next door in Keeping Up with the Joneses.

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $10.1 million for Keeping Up with the Joneses.

Need a good scare this weekend? Ouija: Origin of Evil is the movie for you to see in theaters this weekend.

Todd M. Thatcher predicts an opening weekend of $15.2 million for Ouija: Origin of Evil.

Make It A Redbox Night

Ghostbusters

Much was made about this year’s Ghostbusters reboot that featured an all-female Ghostbusters team. Unfortunately, the hubbub may have cut into the movie’s profits at the box office. The film still managed to make $128 million domestically and another $100 million overseas, however. It’s now available to rent at your local Redbox and I recommend you do so if you haven’t seen it yet. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are hilarious as the new squad and Chris Hemsworth masters the role of their incompetent assistant.
